Sins were paid for at the cross. Jesus' sacrifice paid the penalty for all mankind. However, personally taking hold of what He died to provide requires believing and submitting to water baptism in His name. Jesus prophesied concerning this truth. None can enter the kingdom of God unless their personal sin has been dealt with through water baptism and they have received the indwelling presence of the Holy Ghost/Spirit. Both of which were made possible through Jesus' sacrifice.

"... Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." Luke 24:47

Note the parallel of the gospel message first preached:
"...Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Acts 2:38
Belief is simply the moment we come to realize what God has done for us in Christ.
What happens in Acts 2:37?
Who is doing these things?

You refuse to accept what is staring you in the face. It is specifically stated those that gladly received his word were baptized and added. They received the NT rebirth because they believed and obeyed God's established plan of salvation.

Keep in mind Jesus said those who reject Him AND His words will be judged by the word. And the word reveals both belief in Him and His salvation plan that includes repentance, water baptism in the name of Jesus for remission of sin and receiving the Holy Ghost is not optional.

People can slice and dice it all they want but that does not change what the word of God reveals, and that is, the NT rebirth is necessary for all. (Acts 2:4-41, 8:12-18, 9:17-18, 10:43-48, 19:1-7, 22:16)
Added to the church, sure. Added to the body of Christ...that happens in verse 37.

Here is the verse:

Acts 2:37
When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

Still not seeing it.

Is it implied? I don't think that much surmising is healthy for you.

That's why I work out, so people who don't think I'm healthy won't have to worry.
Where does hearing come from and what does it produce?
Being pricked in the heart...what is that all about? Who works at the level of the heart?

Yes
repent.
Jesus made it clear they would teach the gospel of repentance for remission of sin
Peter emphasized that gospel.

“And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭3‬:‭22‬-‭23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Belief is commanded. Belief is obedience.
James 2

19 You believe that [r]God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder. 20 But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless?

Folks who teach salvation by faith alone (no verses) for salvation often confuse simple obedience with works deserving of wages (Romans 4:4-5). These are two separate work's in connection with two different things.
Romans 4:5 -But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith (apart from additions or modifications) is accounted for righteousness, 6 just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works: Hence, faith alone.

Romans 5:1 - Therefore, having been justified by faith, (apart from additions or modifications) we have peace with God through our Lord. Jesus Christ. Hence, faith alone.

Ephesians 2:8 - For by grace you have been saved through faith, (apart from additions or modifications) and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. 9 Not of works lest anyone should boast. Hence, faith alone. Faith (rightly understood) in Jesus Christ alone for salvation.

Folks who teach salvation by faith and works (no verses) teach that we are saved by "these" works (good works) and just not "those" works (works of the law). I often hear works-salvationists make that bogus argument.

Abraham was before the law of Moses, and when it comes to the moral aspect of the law, you cannot dissect good works from the law. (Deuteronomy 6:5; Leviticus 19:18; Matthew 22:47-40; James 2:15-16)

Also, Paul does not merely limit "works" only to specific works of the law but includes works in general. In Titus 3:5, we read that it is not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us.. and in 2 Timothy 1:9, we read that God saved us and called us with a holy calling not according to our works..

there is no water baptism in John 3.

why do people keep making this mistake?
it's odd that ALL the writers of the 1st century knew that it was water baptism.... and even after the Nicodemus story there's....

22 After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He was spending time with them and baptizing. 23 John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there; and people were coming and were being baptized— 24 for John had not yet been thrown into prison.

25 Therefore there arose a discussion on the part of John’s disciples with a Jew about purification. 26 And they came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified, behold, He is baptizing and all are coming to Him.”

what baptism could it be other than water in acts 2:38? when its telling them to be baptized.

if its belief and belief. theres no need to mention baptism at all.
Jesus said just before He went to Heaven,
1:5For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Not many days hence, His prophecy was fulfilled.

2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Repent of what?
His answer was just explained in the sermon. They crucified Christ as a criminal when in fact He was the sinless Son of God. That's Who they needed to change their mind about in order for Him to save them. They were not required to obedience to the laws for salvation. A sneakier way of saying that is "repent of your sins.".
I throw that explanation in there because the preachers who teach baptismal salvation teach that too.

no what is odd is that Nicodemus did not even know what Jesus was saying, for he said "how can these things be"

and Jesus never mentions water baptism once.. Not even a hint.

22 After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He was spending time with them and baptizing. 23 John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there; and people were coming and were being baptized— 24 for John had not yet been thrown into prison.

Yes. i forgot about this. but this has nothing to do with being born again or the first part.

yes. But like jews. they add a work of man to the doctrine of grace. (in this case. it is water baptism as apposed to circumcision)

None is excluded from the need to be water baptized in the name of Jesus. All detailed conversion accounts reveal what is required in order to receive the NT rebirth. Every single account includes belief in Jesus, repentance, water baptism in the name of Jesus for remission of sin, and receiving the Holy Ghost. According to Jesus only those who have experienced the NT rebirth through water and Spirit will gain entrance into the kingdom of God. (John 3:3-5)

Acts 2:38-39 (Jewish) The group did not receive the Holy Ghost the moment they believed in Jesus. However, they were told they could expect the Holy Ghost at some point.
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Acts 8:12-17 (Samaritans-half Jewish-half Gentile - Why did they hear the gospel before the Gentiles? Their Jewish heritage took precedence)
But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

Acts 10:43-48 (Gentiles)
43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Acts 19:2-6 (12 Ephesians who did not realize they had to water baptized in Jesus name)
He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? (Paul's question reveals those who believe do not automatically receive the Holy Ghost) And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Acts 22:14-16 (Paul's water baptism)
And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.
For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
So, the thief on the cross with Jesus did not enter, okay, thanks, God is not fair and requires Sacrifice over mercy. God Father loves us all, proven to me through risen Son to believe he is risen for us all as only I can be accountable to me in belief not anyone else. Thank you, love you God's improper way that you just described to me as the flesh has to do just right or else attitudes
Wow, I know I am no good, not righteous and see I have given up all my righteous deeds under Law to win the risen Christ Father gives freely, having no work(s) to have to do to be in, but belief that does not quit as like in Job, the book of Job
to see no matter what happened good or bad stand away from denying God and I see to not get caught up in man's rituals to get God pleased by what one does or not does
Love to all is the call, everything done right afterwards is a response in thanksgiving and praise
Wait a sec, my sister died at 18, was not water Baptized, yet she I know believed.
now I hear you say, no way is she saved, I say God decides not me or you, thank you

paul said, if anyone teach another gospel....

Yes, he did. And Peter preached that gospel at Pentecost, and 3000 were baptized and added to the body of Christ. All the other "references" you guys post are AFTER Pentecost... you say "well, they didn't mention baptism HERE... or HERE...." It's because baptism had already been established, and was understood. It was a "GIVEN".... that is why later writers wanted to emphasize the other parts of the equation... belief, faith.... all of those are to be refined after you are added to the body... through baptism and forgiveness of sins. It is part of maturing as a believer.

So, the question is..... why are you preaching another gospel?

Yes, because they repented and were given the HS, and then followed Gods first command to be baptized..

You forget. John has a ton of words which do not mention baptism either.. Start with chapter one and go all the way to chapter 7 to begin with

I am not teaching a gospel of works my friend. and boasting in a work I completed.

The thief died while the OT was still in effect. The command to repent and be water baptized in the name of Jesus pertains specifically to those living after Jesus' death, burial and resurrection.

Scripture reveals the high priority God sets on obedience:
"If ye will fear the Lord, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the Lord your God:
But if ye will not obey the voice of the Lord, but rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then shall the hand of the Lord be against you, as it was against your fathers....And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. (1 Sam. 12:14-15; 15:22)

Church=those in the body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:13-27)
Both belief in Jesus (Acts 2:37) and belief and obedience to God's command set forth in Acts 2:38 places one into the body of Christ. As referenced many times, the bible confirms this truth.

That's your mantra...faith plus works equals salvation. The correct understanding is faith equals salvation which produces obedience.
Your formula has people whose sins have been paid for in hell.
