No one verse in particular at the moment.
I just wondered if it ever happened that you were reading (even in the NT sometimes) and...saw verses that were comforting that then seemed to abruptly take a turn. Like that one from Isaiah.
I just always wonder when I see that if there is some division of time and a division of events instead of it being...contiguous like my mind sees it.
I guess in the verses of Thess you quoted, this is one of those that seems to do that...the apostle is saying take comfort and then what follows seems comforting and then BAM! it suddenly is NOT comforting.
Its comfort to those who belong to God and discomfort for those who are not. Heres a couple scriptures that also speak of His return with fire.
2 THESSALONIANS 1 [6] Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;[7] And to you who are troubled rest with us, WHEN THE LORD JESUS SHALL BE REVEALED FROM HEAVEN with his mighty angels,[8] In flaming FIRE taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:[9] Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
PSALM 50 [3] OUR GOD SHALL COME, and shall not keep silence: a FIRE shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. [4] He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. [5] Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice. [6] And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.
See where His Saints are gathered. The fire wont burn them. The fact that His people are gathered AFTER His return with fire should tell ya there aint no rapture
ISAIAH 66 [15] For, behold, THE LORD WILL COME WITH FIRE, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. [16] For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many. [17] They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD. [18] For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory.
