Valentinus (circa 2nd century AD) was an official in the early catholic church, who was under consideration for becoming the bishop of Rome (pope). When he lost the election he got pissed and left the church to start his own cult. Unlike other gnostic groups who used gnostic texts, he used the OT and existing NT writings to justify his teachings. So it was a Christian sect, albeit a heretical one.

Valentinians considered themselves to be the true Christians, who were saved by the knowledge that they were divine beings; salvation by faith was considered to be ignorance. It has already been admitted here by one that faith doesn't save, but is a result of becoming a saved person, which in essence is identical to the gnostic belief that awakening to the realization that they were a divine seed is salvation.

Clement wrote that the Valentinians regarded Catholic Christians "as simple people to whom they attributed faith, while they think that gnosis is in themselves. Through the excellent seed that is to be found in them, they are by nature redeemed, and their gnosis is as far removed from faith as the spiritual from the physical".

Do you call yourself a gnostic when the Holy Spirit testifies with your spirit?

Some of these heretics here will tell you that if God reveals Himself in any way that varies from how He revealed Himself to another then He is unfair, and yet the Bible front to back is full of examples of God revealing Himself differently from one person to the next.

People go around saying, Christianity is a relationship not a religion, then they start throwing words like gnostic around.

Really, it makes no sense. Either the holy Spirit communicates with us or He does not.

Scripture says He does, and that is not the definition of gnosticism.

Nor is regeneration gnosticism.
Either the Scripture defines objective reality or it does not.

Thems the choices ...

Yes, contrary to what Scripture explicitly articulates, they believe that flesh can please God and that a bad tree can bring forth the good fruit of faith, and they arrive at this belief by demolishing what Scripture says of the unregenerated man, because they would rather mock and scoff at what Scripture has to say of him than actually take it to heart or even see themselves for who and what they are reflected in the pages of Scripture... so they rewrite what they don't like, then pretend they have refuted the verses they love to contradict and deny.
As Rufus was replying to me, please provide the post(s) submitted by me wherein I stated ...

"flesh can please God"
"a bad tree can bring forth the good fruit of faith"

or wherein I ...

demolished "what Scripture says of the unregenerate man"
"mock[ed] and scoff[ed] at what Scripture has to say"
"rewrite" or "contradict and deny" Scripture

and again ... not expecting a response from you ... you prefer to slander then slink away without responding when someone asks for proof of what you claim ...
.

It made me feel bad knowing that I had caused her stress! I think it was HIH.
That makes sense. She says really a whole LOT of things that contradict what Scripture explicitly articulates.

A fave thing of hers and others like her to do is to butcher Romans 1:16, and no matter how many times
she was corrected, her and others kept doing it. They really show that they have no desire to learn.

The power and wisdom of God in the gospel is further clarified in 1 Corinthians 1:24 = to those
whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Sounds awfully suspicious that's for sure.....

Romans8-29-30-Ephesians1-5.png

Romans 8 verse 29-30; Ephesians 1 verse 5 ~ Those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers. And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified. He predestined us for adoption as His sons through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will.

Do you call yourself a gnostic when the Holy Spirit testifies with your spirit? Is it a demon and not God in your view???

That would be blasphemy, but here you are agreeing with a God blasphemer, so it would not surprise me, really.

Heart circumcision is not magic, either.

Spiritual life is the spirit, that wanders the earth seeking those who will hearken to its voice. Being spiritually dead means being separated from God. That doesn't mean he doesn't still speak to spiritually dead people. If what you say is true, then people are saved before they believe the gospel, which is just ridiculous. All who learn of the father through the holy spirit (before they are saved) come to Christ (who saves them)

Positionially, God decreed the salvation of all his chosen people in eternity; and what He has decreed in eternity will functionally come to past in temporal reality through the new birth.

That's true, but salvation doesn't happen until one believes the gospel

Satan rebelled against the authority of God and took many angels with him.
Then, God had that created world destroyed in a universal flood.

if it was the sin only involving angels why do we need an imaginary human race that openly contradicts 1 Corinthians 15:45 to exist and be judged for it?

One is sealed with the promised Holy Spirit when one comes to belief. Hearing comes first. Who hears? Some of the
heretics here say everyone hears but that is contrary to what Scripture actually teaches, and Jesus said otherwise too.

Ephesians1-13-14es.png

Ephesians 1 v 13-14 ~ When we heard the word of truth, the gospel of our salvation, and believed in Him, we were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, Who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of His glory.:)

The angels in the prehistoric creation had dominion over all the animals, like Adam had dominion in this creation.

Satan walked among rhe fiery stones, not among trees and animals.

there was a mineral Eden, not a biological one.

You are not understanding it. Professor Ashby taught ancient languages and made it a point to say that the term used in Jeremiah was not the word usually used to associate with man as we know it, and normally use it. He made it a point to say it was used in a generic sense. We might say "humanoid."

1000040149.jpg

well maybe you didn't understand him or he is just weirdly incorrect, because that is exactly the regular word for man

1-Timothy6-3-5andfr2-Corinthians11-13.png

1 Timothy 6 v 3-5, and from 2 Corinthians 11 v 13 ~ If anyone teaches another doctrine and disagrees with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and with godly teaching, he is conceited and understands nothing. Instead, he has an unhealthy interest in controversies and disputes about words, out of which come envy, strife, abusive talk, evil suspicions, and constant friction between men of depraved mind who are devoid of the truth. These men regard godliness as a means of gain. Such men are deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ.

Do you mean the spirit of him who asserts that God raped Mary if He did not ask her permission?

And to be sure, God did not ask Mary. But people will argue about this because they refuse to accept what Scripture plainly states.

Some would rather blaspheme God than admit they are wrong. That spirit.

The one who rewrites the words of our Lord because he does not believe what Scripture says of man.

He prefers his heresy, and mocks Scripture instead. He acts like he knows better than the Holy Spirit.

Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin." John 8 v 34 Not, only those who choose to sin or only atheists. Everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Romans 3 v 23 - all have sinned...
