Given that the events recorded in Scripture were miraculous, the model of the earth's shape need not allow for them. In other words, those particular passages are irrelevant to this debate.

There are the misinterpretations of the relevant biblical record. There are the deceptions of fear, folly, and flawed logic. There are the readily-observable phenomena that don’t depend on any ‘establishment’.

I believe that God has empowered Christians to revoke and/or break curses uttered by humans. I also think much of their "power" is actually people's belief in or acceptance of them, rather than anything inherent in the words themselves.
