    Jesus birth and childhood

Luke doesn't say that they went straight back to Nazareth. It says "when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord". Parents protecting their child against a known danger (Herod) was definitely "according to the law of the Lord". They would have been in violation of 'love...

    Jesus birth and childhood

(Matthew 2:1b - 23 likely occurs between Luke 2:38 & 39). Here's my take: 1. Mary & Joseph travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem 2. Jesus is born and laid in a manger in Bethlehem 3. Shepherds visit Jesus in the manger and make it known abroad 4. Eight days later Jesus is circumcised...

    Self condemnation

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but Romans 14:23 isn't talking about eternal damnation (hell).

Does God love some people more than others?

Isaiah 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 2 Corinthians 5:16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have...

    Dreams

I accept no "spiritual guidance" from dreams. I believe in the sufficiency of Scripture. ... that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy 3:17

Leviticus 19:34 and the Baby Jesus

That might not work - President Santa Clause got stuck in my chimney last night.

Leviticus 19:34 and the Baby Jesus

The issue is whether they are entering the U.S. legally or not. The sojourning stranger in Leviticus 19:34 dwelt there legally was bound to the laws of Israel. The children of Israel were in Egypt legally and were subject to their laws. Where does the Bible hint that Joseph, Mary, & Jesus...

Does God love some people more than others?

The question reminds me of Nellie Oleson on Little House on the Prairie.

(poll) Do We Choose Him or Does he choose us?

Amen. Already-saved people being predestinated to conformity and adoption: Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and...

Intercultural Gospeling and a Literal Translation of Scripture

I think a non-literal attempt like that on the text of Scripture would end up butchering the entire Bible. An unfamiliar "knock" on the door of an African will accomplish what God pleases and prosper in the thing whereto God sent it. We have to trust His Word as it actually is. In Tyndale's...

    Broad Path, Narrow Path

He was famous (4:24). Did the multitudes from Syria, Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judaea, and from beyond Jordan all have a unified religion? I've not heard of it. Example: the Pharisees and Sadducees were religiously opposed to each other. What they had in common was sick, diseased, and...

(poll) Do We Choose Him or Does he choose us?

I agree that a person doesn't get saved by superficially reciting a verbal formula. Psalm 145:18 The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. 19 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

(poll) Do We Choose Him or Does he choose us?

44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. The Father draws people...

(poll) Do We Choose Him or Does he choose us?

I'm not sure what you're talking about but faith is just faith. Everyone has faith. The object of their faith is what makes the difference.

    Broad Path, Narrow Path

The "many" isn't a reference to any specific "religion present" that was to lead to heaven; it's a reference to all who die in their sins. A lot of unsaved people live irreligious lives and then die. The "many" includes them too.

(poll) Do We Choose Him or Does he choose us?

I think they're in harmony because they both harmoniously bear out the individual's choice. I commented that the presence of man's choice is in John 6:65. Is there any question of choice in John 3:16? (Just to be clear, I'm quite opposed to calvinism.)

How does the devil "sow" people?

Probably by saying to them, "Yea hath God said ...?" (Genesis 3:1), and then proceeding to contradict what God said. I don't know much about the "serpent seed" doctrine either, but remember "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit" (John 3:6)...

(poll) Do We Choose Him or Does he choose us?

John 6:65 doesn't negate man's choice. "Come" requires a choice; you choose to either come or not come. "Can come" bears out the ability the unsaved person has to come. Everyone who has heard and has learned of the Father comes to Jesus. Hearing and learning are also choices that a person...
