You were correct, the graphic used was actually an acorn. Hazelnuts grow in clusters, enclosed in a frilly husk rather than a cap. The husk splits open when they are ripe. But once husked, they do look a lot like acorns! I've never had acorn butter, but with a lot of prep you can turn them...
