That's true, of course. And when applied to data and tracking collection on the internet, it's the same thing, except that they've managed to ensure that the general public is no longer “bothered” by it or has “gotten used” to it. This is certainly also because it's so abstract and doesn't directly “hurt.”When you gain access to someone's property without the owner knowing ... that's usually called stealing.
It's not about living in complete anonymity. It's about not becoming a transparent citizen for companies or authorities that know more about you than you have actually told them yourself.Even people who live in monasteries, someone knows their location and name. Some more elusive ones are the one who live alone in the dessert of forest and live off the land basically.
What I meant was that “the naive” probably said, just don't speak out against the government and you won't have any problems, so it's not really a problem. Without realizing that this is not the solution. Similar to today with all the tracking efforts, where the masses don't care and don't see the problem. And it's not just about advertising! If the whole issue were only about advertising, it would actually be almost “harmless,” because you can take simple steps against it. But the whole thing goes much further when you think it through to its end. What do you mean by this?
As i said, even during the Cold War, the spies did not flag people for having a daily convo about shopping. Only about the system or the dictator.
In our country, so-called “barrier-free parking garages” are currently springing up like mushrooms. Instead of a ticket, the license plate is scanned and registered. You then have 48 hours to pay the parking fee online. If you don't pay, a fine is automatically triggered. So they have the ability to access the owner's data via the license plate! These systems are all operated by the same German company, which probably offers them to parking garages throughout Europe. Of course, it's easy to create a movement profile from the collected data. Does the general public care? Of course not... And that's not even though US bashing is widespread here (because of Trump) and the sign in front of each of these parking garages states that the data could also transmitted to the US (Amazon servers).
And here we are again with the naive ones. They constantly rant about the US and Trump and how bad things are now there and how we should avoid US products and certainly not go there on vacation anymore. But they don't care that their license plates are scanned and stored in the US... (Just so there are no misunderstandings, I have nothing against the US, and certainly not because of Trump. I am bothered by the scanning system itself, and I want to use this example to show how the naive masses are inconsistent, even within “their own world.”)
I will definitely not use any of these parking garages. It is nobody's business when and how long I park where. Conventional parking tickets (parking passes) have been anonymous.
