Have a k98 Oberndorf Mauser, 1943
5.56 allowed more ammo to be carried
I've shot one a few times... a friend had one. It's like an "06... .32 cal instead of .30, but otherwise basically the same.Have any of you any experience with the 7.92x57/8mm?
Yeah, but it lacks in stoppage power.

Ammo used to be pretty cheap, in surplus stuff, but I think most of that has dried up.
Yes, it does.... I just got my 3rd .308.... a Ruger American Hunter bolt action. I've only had it out once, but it shows a lot of promise, accuracy wise.
The Ruger SFAR in .308 still rocks.... that would be my go-to for any SHTF scenario involving urban warfare kind of stuff. It's as light as an AR15, but in .308..... I'm enjoying it a lot...
the 7.92 is probably corrosive, needs to be cleaned/neutralized.

It has a fine reputation.
I've seen a lot of different targets posted online with moa groups.
I would think it an excellent hunting cartridge for large game.

It is. I find my 308 to be more accurate, but the 7.92 works great too and is lighter to carry around.
I forgot to add that the reason why it is lighter is because of the heavier barrel weight of my 308. Normally a 308 would not be heavier than a 7.92.
I went through this list and see you already had a Kimber on there. That's a good list for comparison.
I totally agree about ergonomics and pointability.
