The believers at Pentecost were told they shall receive the Holy Ghost. Not that the experience occurred when they believed Jesus had risen. (Acts 2:36-42)
And, at Pentecost the individuals were NOT externally clothed; "And they were ALL FILLED with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." (Acts 2:4) Peter also stated that the Gentiles had received the Holy Ghost when they heard them speak in tongues. (Acts 10:43-48. 11:15)
NO the apostles were told by Jesus to go and wait until you have been endued with power Luke 24:49

"Jesus said in Acts 1:8 you shall receive Power to be a witness"

Your comment: " Peter was saved eternally before being filled with the Holy Spirit here. " Acts 4:7-8 KJV And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this? [8] Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,"

According to the Word, everyone must be indwelt/filled with the Holy Ghost it's a condition of the NT rebirth. (Acts 2:4, 36-42) Each detailed conversion account reveals this experience is one in the same.

The idea that everyone receives the Holy Ghost the moment they believe, or during water baptism is refuted in the Word. I supplied scriptural evidence of which one is Paul would not have asked have you received the Holy Ghost SINCE you believed if believers receive the Holy Ghost instantaneously upon belief, (Acts 19) etc. etc...
That's the difference between a whole group 'receiving the Spirit ' and an individual receiving the Spirit.

The later is about conversion..the former about already saved believers getting empowered and becoming a NT church.

Jesus is at work in the lives of many during his era or earthly ministry. It's only after his ascension that the Holy Spirit will indwelt believers upon those who will believe Christ. When Christ says about asking the Holy Spirit is not necessarily for salvation but guidance. I think it needed a proper division of the word to understand God's purpose.
Paul's comment in Acts 19 and the Samaritan account indicate people do not become indwelt with the Holy Ghost at the point of belief.

Your assumption is wrong that the people Jesus was talking about in Luke 13:11 were believers. The Samaritans received water baptism and had an acceptance of the message, but they didn't have true faith yet. Why? It's because the Spirit gives us the new birth (John 3:1-18). Simon the Samaritan Magician is a perfect example of accepting Jesus but not having true faith without the Holy Spirit.
My point is there is no need to tell someone to ask for the Holy Ghost if in fact they become indwelt upon belief. Paul's question in Acts 19 along with the Samaritan record indicate people do not automatically become indwelt with the Holy Ghost at the point of belief. And both accounts confirm the experience does not happen upon submitting to water baptism either.

NO the apostles were told by Jesus to go and wait until you have been endued with power Luke 24:49

"Jesus said in Acts 1:8 you shall receive Power to be a witness"
The power to witness is the result of the Holy Ghost taking up residence in the mortal body.

Luke 24:49
Jesus said He'd send the promise of the Father this occurred at Pentecost.

Acts 1:4
Apostle told to wait for the promise of the Father.

Acts 2:33
Peter explained that the promise was the Holy Ghost: Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he (Jesus) hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

Acts 2:38-42
The Holy Ghost is promised to those who obey Jesus' commandments presented by the Apostle Peter.

All individuals within every group received the Holy Ghost; Jews, Samaritans and Gentiles. The Acts 19 account, over 20 years later, again proves the experience is required for all individuals. Everything in God's Word is there for a reason. As such, there is relevance to the number of individuals being specifically being expressed in verse 7.

"...Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

7 And all the men were about twelve."

They had already believed. They didn't believe at the point of baptism. They were already called disciples before baptism. Apollos was mighty in the scriptures, and they were his learners.

Apollos was corrected in the right way.. of baptism. He had learned John's baptism.

This group were baptised unto John's baptism... which was not a New Testament baptism but a preparing for Jesus in the NT. Now with Jesus come and resurrected.. they were baptized the right way under the New Testament covenant.

Then with the right baptism.. they could receive the Spirit as a group and be a NT church.

Clearly you have already made up your mind regardless of what God revealed in His Word. No need to carry on this discussion.
It seems you are the one who has already made up their mind.

I am happy to answer questions on this issue, you are refusing to do the same.

This is a very important subject but you are simply tiptoeing around it.

I will ask the question again.

Would you accept the reasoning that you have presented in other subjects?

This is not a "trick" question but one you seem to not want to address.

If you prefer I will not ask again.

No, they had the Holy Spirit in them. They were saved already, as John chapter 20:22 states.

it was after that Jesu said Go and wait to receive Power, and Jesus said you shall receive power after the holy Spirit comes upon you, not in you two different things and works of the same Spirit. Just as we saw in the Old Testament. Acts 2:38-42 spoke to those who were just saved from the preaching of Peter, who was saved and Filled with the Holy Spirit. Context.

I disagree the word of God shows that the Holy Spirit came upon men and women and then they did mighty works of God.

again they were saved before the event in Acts chapter 2.

Consider Paul's question. For those willing to accept it, it alone speaks the truth. Paul knew people could believe yet not have the Holy Ghost. This truth is also revealed in the referenced Samaritan account.

I am not tiptoeing around anything. I've answered your question on multiple occasions. And referenced confirming scriptures.

I know I received the Holy Ghost as revealed by the accompanying sign of speaking in tongues. Your opposing viewpoint does not change what I know to be true. I am confident I am a better judge of my own experiences than those who attempt to debunk something they have not themselves experienced.

The idea that people instantaneously receive the Holy Ghost upon belief is contrary to what scripture actually reveals.

Jesus said the Holy Ghost was dwelling with the apostles but would be IN them. (John 14:16-18) Scripture specifically states the apostles along with others (totaling 120) were FILLED with the Holy Ghost at Pentecost. (Acts 2:4) Peter even explained what had occurred, "Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. (Acts 2:33) This was a fulfillment of Jesus words in John: “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go NOT away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. . . .(John 16:7)

Also, after the encounter with Jesus in John 20:22, the apostles' character remained the same. Something that would not have been the case had they actually received the indwelling. They were still fearful. (John 20:26) They went back to fishing. (John 21:1-3) etc.

Man has no ability in and of himself. The mighty works are the result of the indwelling presence of the Holy Ghost. That is why Jesus commanded the apostles wait to receive the Holy Spirit. If they had been indwelt previously there would have been no need to wait to begin their ministry.

FYI, these in the word of God were not just People Ok. John 20:22 states Jesus is speaking. HE said Recieve the Holy Spirit and Breated on them. Your opinion is not what the word of God states in John 20:22.

John chapter 14:17 Jesus said in the KJV, NKJV, NIV and NLT
NIV:
17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

KJV:

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

NKJV:

17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

NLT:
17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.

wrong

Jesus said in Luke to receive Power also in Luke 24: 45

45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.
How did He open their understanding if not by the Holy Spirit? They Knew Him as Lord and GOD, as Thomas Confessed.
Then Jesus said
Luke 24:49

49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

In Acts 1: 8

Jesus Speaking said :

8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Paul's comment in Acts 19 and the Samaritan account indicate people do not become indwelt with the Holy Ghost at the point of belief.
everyone who comes to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ did so through the Holy Spirit, who opened their understanding to receive.

That is what clearly happens in Luke 24:45 and John 20:22

Acts chapter 1:8 Jesus said as it is a Parallel text with Luke 24:49 Post Salvation

  • Their understanding was open Luke 24:45
  • They received the Holy Spirit John 20:22
They were told to wait for more Empowerment to be a witness. Acts 1:8 Jesus said it all. Not Paul, Not Peter the Lord Jesus, did Period.

There it is for you in Red.
Another relevant point is prior to making the statement you reference, Jesus said,
"If ye love me, keep my commandments." (those who obeyed the commandments presented at Pentecost were promised they could expect to receive the Holy Ghost- Acts 2:38)

"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; (John 14:15-16)
the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. verse 17

Dwelling with is not the same as dwelling in. The Holy Ghost was WITH the apostles while Jesus was on Earth. After Jesus departed He shed forth the Holy Ghost to dwell IN the apostles and others. (Acts 2:33) If you will recall, Jesus said, "...if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you."(John 16:7)
