Why must there and what kind of a difference?
Like for instance we know that when a person dies either before they die they are given a new born again spirit, soul and new heart according to Ezekiel....
Ezekiel 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a
new spirit will
I put within you: and
I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and
I will give you an heart of flesh And
I will put
my spirit within you, and
cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments,
and do them
Or their temporal corrupted spirit returns to the father who gave it and the body returns to the dust from where it was from.
The latter will not rise to new spirit life and receive the promise of their new incorruptible body .A body without a spirit is dead never to rise to new spirit life.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall
the dust
return to the earth as it was: and
the spirit shall
return unto God who gave it.
The prior who have been given a new spirit that causes or enables us work out that which he has freely given us....As the Spirit works in us to cause us to walk in his statues . (both will and do) For it is God's Spirit in them that works to both will and do His good pleasure.(imputed righteousness)
The Old testament saints that did have the Holy Spirit in them were promised because they did have the Holy Spirit he would fulfill the promise of opening up their graves as the glory that followed.
If the Holy Spirit was not in them they could not rise as the promised glory (no spirit life) . They received the end of their faith or believed to the salvation of their soul just as us today . We look back by the Spirit that dwells in us to that promise they looked ahead by the same Holy Spirit.
The idea of the Holy Spirit not given before Acts 2 is simply not a biblical teaching.
Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of
the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what "manner of time" the
Spirit of Christ which was
in them did signify, when
it testified
beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the
glory that should follow.1 Peter 1: 9-11
The manner of time is when Christ said... "it was finished" the veil was rent the graves were opened .It was the time of reformation spoken of in Hebrews 9 not Pentecost .
