The main debate about the day of the Lord is when it started. Some believe it started at his first coming and will continue until his second.
This is not supported by scripture Tanakh! Below is basically the same description of "the day of the Lord" given by all of the OT prophets:
"See, the day of the LORD is coming --a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger-- to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it.
The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light.
I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless. I will make people scarcer than pure gold, more rare than the gold of Ophir.
Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the LORD Almighty, in the day of his burning anger.
Therefore regarding the day of the Lord continuing until the Lord's second coming, that would mean that the characteristics mentioned above would have continued until this very day and you can see for yourself that that is not true.
The day of the Lord will be an unprecedented time of wrath which will be in operation in during that last seven years. The day of the Lord is not currently in operation. Furthermore, below is what Zephaniah prophesied regarding the day of the Lord:
"I will sweep away everything from the face of the earth, When I destroy all mankind on the face of the earth, declares the LORD.
I will sweep away both man and beast; I will sweep away the birds in the sky and the fish in the sea-- and the idols that cause the wicked to stumble." "When I destroy all mankind on the face of the earth," declares the LORD"
Between the prophecy of Isaiah and Zephaniah, has any that was mentioned taken place? Are we experiencing it now?
This is why I continue to proclaim that, those who claim that the church is going to go through the day of the Lord, the wrath of God, do not understand the severity and magnitude of God's coming wrath. It will be just as Jesus said, "unless those days had been shortened, no one would be left alive."
