Hi @Edith!
Great question!
Pies are known for having an outer shell/crust, combined with a filling. The fillings vary and could be made from things like fruit (blueberries, apple, etc.) or creams (coconut, chocolate, etc.)

And they can also be savory, filled with meat, sauce, and veggies:

One of the reasons pies are so popular is because they are so versatile, and you can put almost anything in them.![]()
I love Sally McKenney's recipes. I'll link one of her recipes. I figure she can explain it better than me. I'm getting to that point of life in the kitchen where I just cook by feeling and/or motion rather than being able to explain. I read about a woman who really wanted some of her mother's recipes and she asked her mother for them. Her mother told her, "I can't tell you, but I can show you."
I do have a binder that is packed full of recipes and notes and probably a pound of flour in between the sheets of paper lol. I jokingly call it my "Book of Secrets" and I intend to be buried with it![]()
But, I've used Sally's recipes a number of times and all have been very smashing...

I've been veggie most of my life, maybe was veggie.... might be more accurate now. All the franken fruits and veggies in shops now, suggest to me there's plenty of stuff there shouldn't be in them.
I would love to b a vegetarian , wish I had done it in my twenties , I think it's probably too late for me now , my hubby wouldn't b pleased ! Try not to eat a lot of meat but I'm cooking spaghetti Bolognese todayI've been veggie most of my life, maybe was veggie.... might be more accurate now. However, one has to eat....![]()
You're a good person Suze, veggie or not. I saw a C4 documentary about factory farming back in the early '80s, the cruelty involved was so horrific to me, i couldn't eat meat again.I would love to b a vegetarian , wish I had done it in my twenties , I think it's probably too late for me now , my hubby wouldn't b pleased ! That one little part right there makes all the difference in the world. Vegetarians/vegans have a bad reputation for preaching to everyone around them. It's a personal choice thing, i don't fret if people eat meat around me.
Being a veggie ain't a passport to heaven, judging others is WAY worse than eating meat. That one little part right there makes all the difference in the world. Vegetarians/vegans have a bad reputation for preaching to everyone around them.
"Do you KNOW how bad that meat is for you?"
"Don't get me started on that. My grandmother lived to be 93."
"She ate meat?"
"Well yes she did, but also she minded her own business."
Do you ever get people being surprised when they find out you're a vegetarian, but you haven't been preaching at them?
Y'know sometimes you say something that makes me wish this forum would let me give more than one reaction to a post...Being a veggie ain't a passport to heaven, judging others is WAY worse than eating meat.
Bless you for that and a massive hug too bro. And ditto! You're really canny too.Y'know sometimes you say something that makes me wish this forum would let me give more than one reaction to a post...
I should probably mention this is the reputation veggies/vegans have. Not saying even MOST of them are like that, just people expect them to be like that. That one little part right there makes all the difference in the world. Know what friend, it's not something i think about. People do say i'm near horizontal laid-back, non-judgemental etc, which is quite true. it must be really important to me to get fired up.I should probably mention this is the reputation veggies/vegans have. Do you ever run into a situation where you WANT to say something, but because of the "preachy vegan" stereotype you know you shouldn't?
Ooh! Also, because i'm a warm person who rarely gets preachy, angry etc, i can say pretty strong stuff to people, without them getting upset or angry.I should probably mention this is the reputation veggies/vegans have. * What qualities in others are YOUR kryptonite -- what things do you see in other people that makes you feel almost "powerless" -- and wanting to know more about them?
Nurses, female paramedics, can handle a firearm, works out, likes airplanes, loves 70s and 80s music.
