I know that some have claimed that Trump has or will damage the economy, and is presumably worse for the economy than Joe Biden. But I recently learned that the number of people receiving SNAP (basically food stamps) increased by 40% under Joe Biden. How can we have this incredible increase in the poor over such a short period of time without everyone, and I mean everyone including Democrats, admitting that Joe Biden was horrible for the economy. Whatever your feeling I would think that having the poor increase by 40% in a four year administration would be seen as horrible by everyone. If we can't all agree on that then it is pointless even having a discussion about this.

During the Biden admin he increased snap payments by 21%. So if you were getting $100 you now received $121.

She mentions in the interview that they have asked all states for their snap data and only 29 have replied so far. She mentions the abuse and used what I am sure is a outlier for an example. She said that they had found one person who was receiving snap benefits in 6 different states.

While that is more than likely an outlier the problem is they are finding folks are receiving additional snap benefits above what they are legally entitled to. To what extent we have no idea as only 29 states have submitted the data so far.

If you have a individual receiving snap benefits like he is 6 people that is going to skew the numbers if you have other people receiving additional snap benefits that is going to skew the numbers. While we do know that snap benefits did increase 21%, due to them being raised.

We also know that there is abuse going on as well. I asked google how much the US paid in SNAP in 2019, when Biden was not president and 2024 the last year of Biden's presidency. The total amount spent increased by 67%. I was not looking at how much money the benefits increased by on a per capita basis. It is perfectly reasonable to claim that part of the increase was due to inflation.

But the basic premise that the US went from spending $60 billion to $100 billion a year on SNAP during Biden's presidency doesn't change. Whether you want to say that the number of people who were poor increased that much or that inflation was that much making every single person in the country poorer regardless of whether or not they receive welfare is fine.

Either way it is a horrendous record as President and certainly not sustainable to the US. In addition it has to bring into question the credibility of anyone who considers Trump's presidency has been worse for the US economy than Biden's. That premise seems almost impossible to be true.

I agree it all began when we started a central bank. As then our money is borrowed into existence. We tried to tie such a system to gold which did not work. Just as it did not for central banks in Europe. With a fiat system of borrowing into existence it can only be backed by the faith and good will of said government.

What some don't know is that faith and good will as a backing means the ability to tax your citizens and a willingness to do so. We went from tariffs funding our nation to now taxing income directly upon numerous other taxes. We had to we passed the income tax in early 1913 and later that year with that now in place finally created a central bank.

Meanwhile this country had existed from tariffs as our founders believed it was immoral to tax ones income. Government borrows money into existence creating debt. Then government pays for that by simple interest with a balloon payment. The balloon payment never comes because they just roll it over.

Then they inflate the money because that means for them that they pay less for the debt. Meanwhile commercial banks charge us compound interest so that we have to pay for that inflation. So that a house you buy today you pay two to three times more for to compensate for the current and future inflation.
