The death and resurrection of Christ remain the central core of the gospel, from which everything else flows.
Absolutely — you’re right, there’s so much depth in the gospel message.
It includes who Jesus is, what He taught, His miracles, His kingdom, His judgment, and His promises. All of it matters.
But the
centerpiece — the truth everything else depends on — is still what Paul called
“the gospel… by which ye are saved” (1 Cor. 15:1-4):
“Christ died for our sins… was buried… and rose again the third day.”
Everything else — His teachings, His miracles, His return, and His judgment — has power and meaning
because of that finished work. Without the cross and the resurrection, none of the rest could save.
So yes, the gospel is rich and far-reaching, but its heart is always
Jesus Christ crucified and risen.
Grace and peace in Him.
See what you are saying here ? That’s what gives baptism in Jesus name for remission of sins …. It’s relevance and power .
just what you are saying so perfectly about the central component being Jesus death for our sins and resurrection ( for our justification )
Jesus death, for our sins …. And his resurrection that core belief and then a teaching about baptism
“Know ye not, that
so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like
as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so
we also should walk in newness of life.
For
if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: knowing this, that
our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For
he that is dead is freed from sin.
….
Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin,
but
alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:3-7, 11 KJV
The doctrine always involves jesus and it’s the very thing that makes the doctrine important . Another section about
baptism and jesus death and resurrection
“And ye are
complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: in whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in
putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: buried with him in baptism,
wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
And
you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath
he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;”
Colossians 2:10-13
see paul is explaining real deep spiritual truths about baptism in jesus name to people who had already been baptized in jesus name for remission of sins.
Note how he addresses them with this doctrine
“Know ye not, that
so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore
we are buried with him by baptism into death: “
“For
as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”
Galatians 3:27 KJV
“ye are
complete in him, ..in whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in
putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: buried with him in baptism, “ ( baptism in his name for
remission of sins because we believe he
died for our sins and rose to life again on our behalf leaving our sins in the grave )
Because we believe your very good point Jesus died and rose this gives baptism for remission of sins it’s power and effectiveness but
only if we believe what’s being taught about it in those epistles to the church who had been baptized in Jesus name
often Paul was preaching to people who had already heard the gospel and been baptized by the time he’s writing his epistles.
Another example was Galatians 3 there
“For ye are all
the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And
if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
Galatians 3:26-29 KJV
early Christian’s wouldn’t have refused baptism , it was a common practice in thier culture at the time , to be baptized in someone’s name who you followed as a rabbi or teacher even the Roman’s did it with some charismatic philosophers .
today if you say pretty much anywhere on earth “ get baptized “ most people will associate that with Christianity and faith in Jesus Christ. But in those days it was common practice for rabbis and teachers or philosophers to have followers who proclaimed their faith in the person by name . The first thing Paul did was get baptized and also another example
“Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.”
1 Corinthians 1:13-17
The first thing Peter did after he was filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak as the spirit gave him utterance was preach a short summary of the gospel and then tell them when they asked what to do “. Repent and be baptized in Jesus name for remission of sins you shall receive the spirit …for the promise is to all the lord shall call “
The thing is we shouldn’t look at baptism as “ is it absolutely necassary ?” But if we look at what the apostles teach the church that it means for them then there’s no reason to not get baptized unless it’s disbelief . Same thing with communion Jesus death and resurrection gives it its value and meaning his body and blood given for us .
