Speaking in tongues is one of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.......and study in this are is truly important, for I see that through my studies of this Gift, what many peoples today call the Holy Spirit Gift is anything but. As well, as I read the teachings of Paul concerning the Gifts of the Spirit, tongues seems to be the "least of the Gifts" in his view.
As for some people here putting forth the idea that one must speak in tongues to truly be saved..........I have read this many, many times.........so she is correct in that. The put forth this assertion by asserting that the PROOF OF ONE'S SALVATION is their speaking in tongues..........which simply means if one does not speak in tongues, one is not saved. No other way to interpret that assertion.
As well, many folks today simply do not understand that "tongues" is nothing more than "languages." Speaking in other tongues is simply speaking in other languages, and these languages are known languages. While the person speaking them may not know the language/tongue, it is a KNOWN language/tongue.
There is one example in Scripture of speaking in an UNKNOWN tongue/language, but that one is oft times misinterpreted/misused by a lot of peoples today in my opinion. If it TRULY IS an UNKNOWN TONGUE, then it CAN NOT be interpreted for it is an UNKNOWN TONGUE.........seems to me that would be nothing more than common sense, but, I suppose, that may just be me.
Praying for the Gift of interpretation refers to the KNOWN tongues/languages, and not the UNKNOWN in my opinion.
