My wife and I went to a church that taught that too. I had to show her in the bible that tongues is the least of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

You have to do this and if you don't you aren't saved is the main theme of what I argue the most with here. But I'm like you. After a while I get tired of it. I want to be an encouragement. But I'm sometimes overly aggressive in my presentation.

I hope you overcome whatever obstacles you may have in your life at the moment. I hope I do, too...
I totally hear the " I want to be an encouragement" part... I often feel the same way, but then get dragged into an argument... but what to do? Just leave someone in the state of believing that bible teaches tongues required for salvation (for example)?

Why then do you keep the cat? LOL!

You must enjoy being a slave! LOL!

If it was that cat I see on your posts I can see its personality in the picture! :)
I think that cat says "go ahead, make my day"

I am wondering if I should take a break from, or maybe even leave CC before I get upset enough to get myself banned.

Here are some of the things I have "learned" from CC (NOT my statements opinions!)

- WE (most of us) are saved by grace / faith , but homosexuals and people who commit suicide will go to hell no matter what, no grace for them.

- People who don't speak in tongues aren't saved

- People who are saved never sin
(so: I am not saved?)

- God predestined and created people planning to put them in hell
(combined with the above: I am destined for hell, so what am I doing here ? )

Hi wwjd,

In the bible discussion forum there's a lot of people with strong opinions with varying backgrounds coming from different denominational churches. That's why we see such wide and various statements of opinions.

You know, Lifeway did a poll back in 2012 and found that only 19 % of the Christians who responded read their bible every day. So, so sad. So really, much of what is shared there are opinions only, not what God's word actually says.

The
way I've decided to handle all those opinions is to grieve that's there's so much biblical ignorance out there and realize that many will be sharing opinions rather than what God actually says in His word.

And I feel like those who do read the bible and do understand what it says needs to respond so that others can hear what the bible actually says instead of just an opinion.

Who knows, it may have an effect on them. One can hope anyway. And we won't always know if something we've said made a difference because many times its a seed planted that grows later.

I know sometimes its difficult to not be hurt by what others say or have said. I think we can all say that we've been judged wrongly around here. And there seems a few who always start out with being judgmental instead of finding out who and what the op is all about.

I didn't want to stick around here at all after I first joined and began posting in the forum. At first I did the chat room. Like a revolving door, I came in and I so wanted to just leave. Some people are just so brutal and judgmental with their tongues. I'm so glad that Jesus isn't like that. :)

But anyway, I've decided to stay for now and see if maybe God can use me in whatever way He decides. We really do need tough skin and need to learn to not be so emotional when the attacks come. Lets keep our eyes on the author and finisher of our faith, sharing His truth and love wherever we are in joy and with love. :)

If a topic comes up and I'm not sure how I believe, I probably won't respond. But if I've studied and know what I believe I'll probably share. But sometimes I don't. Especially if the atmosphere is really heated and there's a lot of arguing going on.

But in saying that I also try to remain teachable. Maybe I've misunderstood a passage and someone else may enlighten me about how I might have misunderstood what I've read or studied. My first pastor taught that and I always keep it in mind. We all need to remain humble and not think we have the corner on the truth, even though we might. LOL j/k

So I guess I've said that to say that if you need a break from the bible study forum then it's probably important to not involve yourself in it for a while. But I'd like to encourage you to not take what others say personally even if they attacked you or aimed their comments towards something you said.

Everything you've said in your post I have also read in the BSF. Many times it's just a handful of people teaching either one extreme or the other.

So those of us who get frustrated at these things, we can begin praying for those we believe are blinded that God might fill them with His wisdom and knowledge and understanding to help them handle His truth correctly. And I also always want to remember to pray for myself incase I'm not seeing something clearly. Hugs!

Love the sharp colors in that one
Thank you :) I really bumped up the contrast and colour, and then posterized it a little from the original, and added a border... here are both for comparison :D I worry sometimes that I am making the images too contrasty, but I do really like the vividness :D

Here is the original:

Speaking in tongues is one of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.......and study in this are is truly important, for I see that through my studies of this Gift, what many peoples today call the Holy Spirit Gift is anything but. As well, as I read the teachings of Paul concerning the Gifts of the Spirit, tongues seems to be the "least of the Gifts" in his view.

As for some people here putting forth the idea that one must speak in tongues to truly be saved..........I have read this many, many times.........so she is correct in that. The put forth this assertion by asserting that the PROOF OF ONE'S SALVATION is their speaking in tongues..........which simply means if one does not speak in tongues, one is not saved. No other way to interpret that assertion.

As well, many folks today simply do not understand that "tongues" is nothing more than "languages." Speaking in other tongues is simply speaking in other languages, and these languages are known languages. While the person speaking them may not know the language/tongue, it is a KNOWN language/tongue.

There is one example in Scripture of speaking in an UNKNOWN tongue/language, but that one is oft times misinterpreted/misused by a lot of peoples today in my opinion. If it TRULY IS an UNKNOWN TONGUE, then it CAN NOT be interpreted for it is an UNKNOWN TONGUE.........seems to me that would be nothing more than common sense, but, I suppose, that may just be me.

Praying for the Gift of interpretation refers to the KNOWN tongues/languages, and not the UNKNOWN in my opinion.
We all speak in tongues cause we all got one.....lol Liked your thoughts by the way....
