Exactly.Oh I see, well I would disagree because the parable said they didn't bring extra oil note extra in this parable
Unbelievers do not, and have never had, "oil", "lamps", "light", and the biggie...they are not virgins.
Exactly.Oh I see, well I would disagree because the parable said they didn't bring extra oil note extra in this parable
II thought to add that caveat, that it isn't explicitly mentioned the foolish had any oil at all, to better qualify my commentary. It is only an educated guess that hypothesizes that, if they had lamps, and extra is explicitly mentioned that which they had not, then they had some. So, I conclude that all had life, but only five had eternal life. This is actually not too bad a rendering of this. You may be right that they were all dead. The only problem with it is nowhere does it say the foolish had ANY oil. It is speculation to say that because the text says the wise virgins had EXTRA oil means that the the foolish had SOME oil.
It doesn't say they had ANY oil.
And if they had SOME oil, which you agree represents the Holy Spirit, then Jesus wouldn't have said at the end of the parable "I don't know you".
okay, but the parable is about 10 'virgins'?Exactly.
Unbelievers do not, and have never had, "oil", "lamps", "light", and the biggie...they are not virgins.
If they were unbelievers they would not have had oil, lamps, light, and the biggie the virgin designation. This is actually not too bad a rendering of this. You may be right that they were all dead. Once a parables components are tampered with, the sky is the limit where creativity takes the meaning.II thought to add that caveat, that it isn't explicitly mentioned the foolish had any oil at all, to better qualify my commentary. perhaps it would be more accurate then, if the Greek were to have been translated 'maidens'?Only believers are virgins
If the bible needs changing why read it??perhaps it would be more accurate then, if the Greek were to have been translated 'maidens'?
Changing? No, please, definitely not. Precision in the communication of it? Yes. In the general understanding of Elizabethan times, virgin and maiden were synonymous. If the bible needs changing why read it??
They didn't have oil. Show me where it says they had oil.If they were unbelievers they would not have had oil, lamps, light, and the biggie the virgin designation.
It would be IMPOSSIBLE to assume they are saved without the Holy Spirit (oil). It would be impossible to assume they are anything but saved.
So, it used to be assumed that maidens were virgins, considering the cultural, what would be the correct phase, 'rules of engagement'? Obviously, that can no longer be assumed within the current culture. Why do we need the parable changed?
Is it because Mary never "knew" a man?
Or is it because Jesus does not " know" carnal believers?
They definately had oil. They didn't have oil. Show me where it says they had oil.
EVERYONE, saved and unsaved, has a lamp, or vessel. Which is our bodies we are born with. Without the Holy Spirit indwelling AND Sealing us until the day of redemption (Bridegroom returns), all manner of unclean spirits can and do inhabit our vessels.
Again, a lamp WILL light for a short time WITHOUT oil. Wicks are part of the lamp, and they ARE flammable.
Virgin designation equates to salvation? News to me.
It would be IMPOSSIBLE to assume they are saved without the Holy Spirit (oil).
Virgins fits just fine. So, it used to be assumed that maidens were virgins, considering the cultural, what would be the correct phase, 'rules of engagement'? Obviously, that can no longer be assumed within the current culture.
Show me where in the text. Your speculation is NOT proof. They definately had oil.
You conveniently left my point out that a lamp's wick can ignite, and burn for a short time WITHOUT oil.8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
In order for the flame to have gone out, the flame had to previously be there.
They all had the Holy Spirit.I believe this is more correct. All ten had lamps but only five had extra oil. They're lamps went out when they fell asleep (representative of death). They all awoke (all are resurrected and the foolish could be view here as having lit their wicks containing residual oil). But I think it is more accurate that extra oil is the Holy Spirit, (they all had life (created by through and for Jesus) to start with, but the wise had Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
Maybe magic lamps?Show me where in the text. Your speculation is NOT proof.
You conveniently left my point out that a lamp's wick can ignite, and burn for a short time WITHOUT oil.
Now show me where it says the foolish had oil.
I'm the one modifying!? You are the one inserting that they had oil, when NOWHERE in the text does it say they do.If you need it to be what you are modifying it, then go ahead.
Yup. They trimmed their lamps:It says they awoke and TRIMMED their lamps.
"I'm the one modifying!? You are the one inserting that they had oil, when NOWHERE in the text does it say they do."I'm the one modifying!? You are the one inserting that they had oil, when NOWHERE in the text does it say they do.
Yup. They trimmed their lamps:
Trimming a lamp involves adjusting the wick to ensure a clean and efficient flame, which is essential for optimal lighting and performance.
Can an oil lamp's wick burn for a short time without oil?
Yes, an oil lamp's wick can burn for a short time without oil.
Tell me WHERE, and from WHOM, did they go to buy oil when they realized they had none?
