The word "Sabbath" first appears in Exodus 16:23 - Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.----------------------------
Exodus 20, God tells Israel remember the sabbath day keep it holy. Question, what was the commandment? If it was to remember and keep holy, this would imply that sometime prior to Exodus 20 these commandment were given, the question is to who?
Can you prove from scripture that God gave Abraham the 10 commandments before He gave them too Moses? *Now if every man from Adam to Moses kept the Sabbath, why is the Hebrew word for the weekly Sabbath found in the Ten Commandments, never found in the book of Genesis? *Why is no one before Moses ever being told to keep the Sabbath? *Why are there no examples of anyone keeping the Sabbath before Moses? *Why were the Patriarchs never instructed about the Sabbath, but were instructed regarding: offerings: Genesis 4:3-4, Altars Genesis 8:20, Priests: Genesis 14:18, Tithes: Genesis 14:20, Circumcision: Genesis 17:10. Marriage: Genesis 2:24, and Genesis 34:9. *Why would God leave out the Sabbath command in Genesis if it was for everyone to keep before Moses?Do you know that the Scriptures tell us that Abraham kept all God's charges, ordinances, statures, laws and commandments? I believe God gave them to them verbally, this on tablets of stones, and now stored in our minds and written in our hearts.
So you disagree with Exodus 31:16-17 and Deuteronomy 5:15?Gentile believers always throw the same line that it was between God and Israel.
I am not under the law, under the old covenant, yet under the new covenant, Jews and Gentiles alike have been baptized by one Spirit into one body, the body of Christ.Question, aren't you part of the commonwealth of Israel or you would hesitate to respond? Remember, Israel does not become part of the commonwealth of the Gentiles, is the other way around, but one in Yeshua.
2 Corinthians 3:6 - who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. 7 But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away, 8 how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious? 9 For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory.Gentile always tied up all the laws together, we are talking about the Ten Commandment. Question, are the Ten Commandment done away with for you or you will keep 9 and do away with the Sabbath day?
References for principles of 9 of the 10 commandments are reiterated under the new covenant, yet the command to keep the Sabbath day is not binding on Christians under the new covenant.
1. You shall have no other gods before Me. - Acts 14:15
2. You shall make no idols. - 1 John 5:21
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. - 1 Timothy 6:1; James 2:7; James 5:12
4. Keep the Sabbath day holy. - Not binding on the Church - Colossians 2:16-17
5. Honor your father and your mother. - Ephesians 6:1-2
6. You shall not murder. - Romans 13:9-10; 1 John 3:15
7. You shall not commit adultery. - Romans 13:9-10; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10
8. You shall not steal. - Romans 13:9-10; Ephesians 4:28
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. - Romans 13:9-10; Colossians 3:9-10
10. You shall not covet. - Romans 13:9-10; Ephesians 5:3
Israel. If Sabbath day observances are still required, so would the burnt offerings which went along with them (Leviticus 19:30; 23:2-3; Numbers 28:1-10; 29:39-40; I Chronicles. 23:30-31; II Chronicles 31:2-4; Isaiah 1:13). So no kindling a fire in any of your dwellings on the sabbath (Exodus 35:3). Every man must remain in his place on the sabbath (Exodus 16:29). No trading (Amos 8:5). No marketing (Nehemiah 10:31; 13:15,19).Again, remember and keep holy, who were they given to in the past?
These were commanded by God to Israel (Exodus 35:1).
If the Sabbath day is still in affect, then why do not the Sabbatarians seek to obey ALL that the LORD commanded? How can a person keep a certain law when he keeps only part of it? If the Sabbath day laws were still in effect today, then according to Exodus 31:12-18; 35:1-3; and Numbers 15:32-36, anyone who profaned the Sabbath was put to death and any person who does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from his people.
Now who is going to enforce that? The Jewish synagogue? The Government? Since we do not live under a theocratic state as Israel did under the old covenant, no Sabbatarian today can live consistently under these Mosaic regulations.
At least you are heading in the right direction here.Let me make this clear one is save by grace alone, through faith apart from the Law, the law (Ten Commandments) has nothing to do with the gift of God, but all to do with obedience to God.
Committing adultery, sealing, murder, bearing false witness, dishonoring your parents, coveting, making images of gods and bowing down to them is still sin. Show me under the new covenant where failing to keep the Sabbath day (with all it's rules and regulations from the old covenant) is sin?Questions, is committing adultery a sin? Is stealing a sin? Is murdering a sin? Is bearing false witness a sin? Is dishonoring your parents a sin? Is covet a sin? Is making images of gods a sins? Is bowing down to images a sin? If you answer yes to all of them then you are refraining from sin, which means that you are keeping 9 commandments and your issue is with the Sabbath day, you do not want to keep the one day God specifically sanctified and said to remember and keep holy. Unless you believe it was given to Israel.
My argument is not weak at all. See Exodus 31:16-17 and Deuteronomy 5:15. The 10 commandments (with all the rules and regulations, including death penalties for breaking certain laws) was given to Israel under the old covenant. Just because 9 out of the 10 commandments are reiterated under the new covenant does not mean that believers are under the 10 commandments from the old covenant (with all the rules and regulations, including death penalties for breaking certain laws).Let me use your argument... you stated the Sabbath day was between God and Israel, my question to you... wasn't the Ten Commandment between God and Israel? Your argument is WEAK!
I believe that people with your logic are having a very difficult time making the complete transition from the old covenant into the new covenant.I will not impose the Sabbath day on the Gentiles, but I believe in their relationship with God in Yeshua, the Spirit of God will enlighten their mind with the truth of God's word, what God made clear when he first spoke, but the problem is that many Gentiles have been impressed with teachings of man which is why it is hard for them to see this truth of God's word.
