This one is, The war was just, or the war was not just. You equivocate.

You think post #699 was equivocating?!
The wars it cited were just causes but unjustly conducted.
If I were in charge (per the mulligans I mentioned) we would have had a tenth of the cost in money and American casualties.

Take a stand. WWII was a just war. Yes or no. Pro tip: It was a just war.

What is your stand regarding the other wars it cited?
  1. American Revolution (1775-1783): Unjust
  2. Spanish-American War (1898): Just
  3. War of 1812 (1812-1815): Just
  4. Civil War (1861-1865): Just (North), Unjust (South)
  5. World War I (1917-1918): Just
  6. World War II (1941 –1945): Just
  7. Cold War (1947-1991): Just
  8. Korean War (1950-1953): Just
  9. Vietnam War (1964-1975): Just
  10. Desert Shield/Desert Storm (1990-1991): Just
  11. Afghanistan War (2001-2021): Just
  12. Iraq War (2003-2011): Unjust
Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil. -- Matt 5:37 ESV

Okay, thanks for your list. I agree that the U.S. cause was just in all of the wars, but I would include the American Revolution
and Iraq War.

However, I disagree with your opinion that Matt. 5:37 applies to this topic, because it obviously refers to not swearing oaths.

If you can bring yourself to agree with that interpretation, then perhaps you would agree with my mulligans, because the ways
the wars were waged were unjust, resulting in many more deaths (especially of the good guys) than they should have due to the apparent fact that those in charge did not interpret Matt. 22:39 as meaning "love they soldier as thyself".

There are no mulligans in war. It's not golf.

Japanese internment was evil, but that didn't make WWII unjust. Apples vs. Oranges.

War strategy is a completely different discussion.

Not at all. Strategy determines whether war is waged justly.
A just strategy strives to minimize casualties, especially of the good guys, by interpreting/applying Matt. 22:39 as
"love thy soldier as thyself", which is described in the mulligans.
For example, how different would the Normandy invasion battle strategy have been if the generals planning it
envisioned themselves at the front of the assault?

I use "mulligan" creatively to mean "correction for stupidity". :sneaky:
Yes, I know, you use the word incorrectly. That's not what it means.

Just War is or isn't. There are strategies and actions that can be just or unjust during that war, but that does not change whether the reason for entering the war was just or unjust. If you conflate those it just confuses things. It would be better to be clear and separate them.

Separating the just reason/cause from the unjust/stupid strategy is what the mulligan analogy does
for those who are paying attention and are not anal about human made traditional definitions.
