Jesus said in Luke to receive Power also in Luke 24: 45

45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.
How did He open their understanding if not by the Holy Spirit? They Knew Him as Lord and GOD, as Thomas Confessed.
Then Jesus said
Luke 24:49

49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

In Acts 1: 8

Jesus Speaking said :

8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
What is the promise of the Father?

It is difficult to describe but here is my experience:

It is a force guiding you from within.

You feel alive inwardly.. a spiritual force enlightening you.

The difference of knowing that oil for your lamp is not real oil for your real lantern.. but through believing the Lord’s Testament you are becoming spiritual. Faith through Grace.

Set free from within.. abiding in the flesh in the mortal realm.. knowing where you are going if you believe unto the end.

I was moved to go and witness my spiritual baptism.. Your guide from within from up above.

The Lord received the Holy Spirit without measure after being Baptised with water..

The new feeling a person experiences is personal to them..

If a person tries to complicate it with man’s theology.. with questions.. and must do’s.. to pass go.. simply ask for guidance and understanding yourselves. Be still and be patient. Search the scriptures. We each have our experiences and understanding. The fundamental is Believing.

everyone who comes to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ did so through the Holy Spirit, who opened their understanding to receive.

That is what clearly happens in Luke 24:45 and John 20:22

Acts chapter 1:8 Jesus said as it is a Parallel text with Luke 24:49 Post Salvation

  • Their understanding was open Luke 24:45
  • They received the Holy Spirit John 20:22
They were told to wait for more Empowerment to be a witness. Acts 1:8 Jesus said it all. Not Paul, Not Peter the Lord Jesus, did Period.
I disagree with your interpretation of events. And reject the idea that man lacks freewill.

Jesus commanded His disciples, “Receive ye the Holy Ghost” (John 20:22). They did not receive the Spirit at that time, AS LUKE'S ACCOUNT OF THE EVENT MAKES CLEAR. “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49); “And being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. . . . But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:4-5, 8)

Lastly, what Peter and Paul revealed is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness as all scripture is given by inspiration of God. 2 Timothy 3:16

How did you reply to Magenta in the second post when she did not post anything until the third post.

How did that happen.

This is a mind boggller.

Another relevant point is prior to making the statement you reference, Jesus said,
"If ye love me, keep my commandments." (those who obeyed the commandments presented at Pentecost were promised they could expect to receive the Holy Ghost- Acts 2:38)

"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; (John 14:15-16)
the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. verse 17

Dwelling with is not the same as dwelling in. The Holy Ghost was WITH the apostles while Jesus was on Earth. After Jesus departed He shed forth the Holy Ghost to dwell IN the apostles and others. (Acts 2:33) If you will recall, Jesus said, "...if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you."(John 16:7)

You like to circle your wagon around sound bites, talking points, and assumptions and create false narratives.

Never said we don't have free will. Try for one moment to put down the Calvinist Arminian debate. FYI, NOT just Peter and Paul but ALL Scriptures is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness as all scripture is given by inspiration of God. 2 Timothy 3:16. When Jesus speaks, HE is the Supreme Authority. If you think the text I provided from what Jesus Said is secondary to all others. You be my guest and continue down that word. The issue you have is you want to take every topic and make it about free will or some other foolish debate. When I have said many times in other threads you responded to I believe the bible teach free will.

YET John 6:44 "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. "

If Peter or Paul said anything to chnage what Jesus said here they would have been Flase Teachers, they did not do that.

and John14:6 "Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

This has never changed. Context is importent. Have nice day.

Calvinist Arminian debate? Interesting.

Of course God draws everyone. However, all mankind has the choice whether to respond.

And for the record I never said what Peter and Paul revealed held special authority. What I did say is the sum of God's Word is truth which of course includes Peter and Paul's teaching.

Your attempt to spin what I said does nothing to change what the scriptures reveal.

Jesus Himself said, unless I depart the Comforter will not come. But if I depart I will SEND him to you. Again, this happened at Pentecost. (Acts 2:33)

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you." John 16:7

Read John 14 again Jesus tell you what the Promise from the Father is.
Jesus is talking about the Holy Ghost in John 14. The promise of the Father is the gift of the Holy Ghost. (John 14, Acts 2:33, 38-42)

Acts 2:4
And they were ALL FILLED with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:33
Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

Acts 2:38-39
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
For the promise
is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Jesus made reference to the above when He stated:
"If ye love me, keep my commandments.
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." John 14:15-17

Maybe you should do a word study on the Holy Spirit it might help you.

Those who hold to certain teachings without realizing it often place GOD in a Box and try to use the word of God to prove their position.

The Holy Spirit is GOD. If we look at the Spirit of GOD in the Old Testament, we see HIS working and how He would come upon men of God and depart. Saul experienced the Spirit of God coming upon him, and he prophesied. 1sam 10:10-11
another example is Samson he too, experienced the Spirit of God coming upon him and departing
Judges 15: 14 and 16:20

The experience of having the Holy Spirit in a person did not happen as a normative until Our Lord paid The Price of Calvery in full. HE Jesus is the one who Baptizes in the Holy Spirit, John the Baptist said in John chapter 1: 33

Jesus said in John chapter 14 that the Comforter, when he comes( upon), he will be with you, AND in you, He will come upon you. This is what Jesus said in ACTS 1:8: for the purpose of power is to be a witness, not for salvation. Why? Because the Apolstes Jesu said that too, it was said already.

Two evident works of the Holy Spirit in the belief that he comes to live in you and will come upon you.

Reread the scripture. It does not say the Holy Ghost will be with you and in you. It says he dwells with you (currently) and SHALL be IN you.
The Spirit of God was currently dwelling with the disciples in the person of Jesus Christ but would upon His departure be dwelling in them.

Note Jesus "shed" forth the Holy Ghost at Pentecost. (Acts 2:33)

I've studied the accounts you referenced. And I am aware that the Holy Ghost is God. Note: While Jesus was here in the flesh, God, the Holy Ghost, was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself. (2 Cor. 5:19) This points to what Jesus meant in John 14:17.

“To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. ( like the Jews at pentocost )

Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭10:43-47‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Seems like they just believed eh beloved sister ?!
many will argue that vast numbers of Christians do not receive the Holy Ghost in the same manner that either Cornelius did or the early church on the day of Pentecost ... that is exactly where the contention is.

We are not saying they did not receive the Holy Ghost.

FYI guy, Dwellth means in the Greek
  1. to continue to be present

John 14:17

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Dwelleth and shall be in you two application of the Spirit for the believer that are not the same but from the same Holy Spirit.
