I just now - this morning - listened to this preaching message by John MacArthur, against the false claims of global warming. Below, are some Bible verses that came to my mind, that help to remind us of the need to prayerfully do our best to avoid the lies of the media, etc.
1 Tim 6:20
20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
KJV
Prov 14:15
15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.
KJV

Whoever Johny Mac is (I don't know) - I don't watch TV - my husband does. I gather he's not a truthful person often maybe?

Johnny Mac = my nick name for John MacArthur. Though I am probably not the only one who calls him that ;)

He is a somewhat well-known pastor and preacher.

I don't own a TV either, though I do have Netflix on my laptop :)

It is my understanding that Global Warming is a pretty well established fact, but I will listen to your video.

I watched the video. Back in 2009, it was great fun to laugh at the idea of global warming. No one seems to be laughing any more. God gave man dominion over the Earth to take care of it, not to rape it.

I'm not sure why global warming or cooling is something we would contest. Since the formation of the world our planet goes through constant cycles of change. The continental plates still move, islands form through volcanic action. There is shifting and erosion. It did not all stop because our generation is here. There are things that we do as people that make it worse or better but it continues despite us. Our geological records show the history of change on our planet. I am not sure why we argue about ongoing changes but what we do need to do is be prudent and prepare as best we can. Be practical. If water levels have been rising or falling in your area, understand how it will affect you and do something about it.

There is a lot of misinformation and lack of understanding of the term, which is unfortunate, and perplexing, too, that some make claims that seem to amount to them believing man has no deleterious effect on our environment and/or ecology. The warming that is happening is at the poles, where the ice caps are experiencing phenomenal shrinkage, glaciers are retreating and disappearing at remarkable speed, and the degradation of Greenland's permafrost continues. These changes affect ocean currents, which in turn affect our climate.

I'm sure JMA wishes that this "sermon" would just evaporate (like the polar ice caps are at this very moment.)

GLOBAL WARMING? - I don’t think so!

I am sure that there must be some sort of human influence on our climate, given the changes we have wrought on the natural environment. There are localized problems, such as smog over cities.
It’s very hard to establish how much, if any, this has on normal cycles.
I don’t know whether getting warmer is good or bad overall, though I rather like the world that I know.
Sensible measures to mitigate the possible effects seem to be justified; however some schemes involving huge costs and disruption to our way of life cannot be justified.

Some facts – CO2 emissions caused by human activity is 3.4% of the total amount per year produced from all sources. Of this 3.4%, only half – 1.7% actually goes into the atmosphere.
CO2 levels in the atmosphere – was 280ppm before 1800, now 385ppm = .038% of air. Prehistoric levels were as high as 7000ppm
For increased growth in greenhouses CO2 is kept at 700 to 800ppm.

Water vapour is 4% of the atmosphere and is directly responsible for 90 to 95% of the greenhouse effect.

Previous climate changes There was a Medieval warm period from 550AD to 1300AD. The average temperature rose between .75o to 1.5o c. Then from 1600 to 1850AD, a little ice age caused devastating effects. In 1685, the English Channel froze over.

Solar activity Solar Cycle 24 peaked in 2014/2015, and currently there is low sunspot activity and a reduced magnetic field. But it is the sun that is the driver of all the climate activity. Whatever we do or don’t do, has little if any effect on this.

Costs and benefits 1 ton of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere is estimated to cause $7 worth of negative effects. In the E.U. – every euro spent gives 3 cents of benefits and by 2100 at the total cost of billions, may or may not reduce the warming by .05o

Lies and misreporting Temperature readings taken at airports and city locations give misleading results, due to the Urban Heat Island Effect. ( U.H.I.E.)
Sinking Islands? It has been proven that the coral islands supposedly affected by “rising sea levels “ are actually sinking because the coral they consist of is dying off. Two main reasons for this – the conch shellfish that eat the starfish, who eat the coral, have been taken by collectors. And by disastrous fishing methods – cyanide and dynamite.

Shrinking glaciers. World Glacier Monitoring Service records show an extensive loss of ice in glaciers and polar caps, up to 2007. Records for the last few years are harder to find, as the fact is that many glaciers are now advancing. They are now generally at their normal size. Polar ice caps also have regained ice mass, but the media only headline the odd large iceberg that breaks off, as they always have done.

Global warming - now Climate change As recent Northern winters have been the coldest recorded, those political entities pushing this agenda – for whatever reason – found themselves looking a bit silly, so had to foist a new name for the “problem “on the gullible public.

Avoid John Macarthur.
I won't. This is because I see him to be correct on the way of salvation. And also see that he loves the Lord very much. And also that God has done great, wonderful things through him for God.

Oh I see. Well, I respect your view. But I highly respect John MacArthur, and find him to be biblically correct on many things - the most important of which, is lordship salvation - which I see as being the only way to get truly saved.

Good verse! And to declare Him to be "Lord" in this verse - means to not just say it as a title - but to also revere Him as Lord of one's life - one whom they are to obey with their lives.

He holds to limited atonement so God has not chosen to save some but are vessels for hell .

I have heard some of the raging controversy around Mac's "Lordship Salvation" teachings, but cannot say I have studied them at all. I do understand the importance of faith in our lives, and how it is to infiltrate every aspect of our life's circumstances... for in allowing this, we increasingly come to more fully rely on and rest in Him :)

Ha , I agree .. It was sure fire ''Man Made Global Warming'' then they changed it to ''Climate Change'' .. God created all Carbon then buried who knows how much in coal, gas and oil deposits from the great flood .. Earth continues to make and even refill many oil fields that wee thought to have been pumped dry only a few years ago plus new giant energy fields are being found all over earth EVEN IN ISRAEL the last few years .. The US has found enough new gas since Trump was elected to become an exporter and largest supply on earth .. The new oil, gas found in Israel has caused them to be exporters also where previously before 2016 they had no oil and had to import all their gas, oil and coal .. I thank God for it ..

If you live where it gets cold you can go outside to your unheated garage on a cold day then light a lighter or match and it will have more affect on heating you and your garage than all the CO2 emissions from man all combined on earth .. And people seem to forget that all plants need CO2 .. I see all MMGW freaks as pagan mother earth devil worshippers who put it above fellow man .. John MacArthur nailed it .. If anything we are co2 starved, why else would greenhouses pump in CO2 to help grow their crops .. And don't even consider the oceans that literally bubble up co2 and oxygen 24/7 ..

Why is this in Bible Discussion? It rather belongs in Christian News or Conspiracy section.
