The pagan teachings from the start teach that the soul is immortal. This is the first lie of the Devil... the soul dies and we become dust when the breath of life returns to God.
I believe that's incorrect. The dead Lazarus in Jesus' parable is conscious and the souls under the altar in Revelation are conscious

And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? Revelation 6:9-10

Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Dust and physical elements + the breath of life = a living soul.

The pagan teachings from the start teach that the soul is immortal. This is the first lie of the Devil... the soul dies and we become dust when the breath of life returns to God.
Hi TMS, if we're discussing the nature of the soul, it's important to look back to the Scriptures that will make things clearer.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." This verse highlights that humanity is a unique combination of the physical and the divine breath of life, resulting in a living soul.

As said before, I'll say it again with the same scriptural references; regarding the immortality of the soul, I hold the belief that the soul does indeed continue beyond physical death. This perspective is rooted in several biblical passages, such as:
  • Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it."
  • Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."
These verses plainly say that while the body may perish, the soul continues to exist. The idea of annihilationism, which says that the soul ceases to exist, contradicts the "ever living nature of the soul" as depicted in these scriptures.

We need to remember that different theological perspectives, like the one you mentioned about annihilationism, often arise from varied interpretations and translations. However, the fundamental belief in the soul's immortality has been a cornerstone of Christian doctrine throughout history.

Mixed with the unbiblical teachings of today the word SOUL is misused.

When we die the soul does not seperate from the body.

Ecc 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
The word breath and Spirit are often used to describe the life God puts in us.

Job 27:3 KJV All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;

Eze 18:4 KJV Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Eze 18:20 KJV The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, .....

One thing we can be sure of is that the soul is not a spirit or a part of us that can live seperatly to the physical body.

Gen 12:5 KJV And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

Ecc 9:5-10 KJV 5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun. ....... 10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

Psa 146:4 KJV His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

Like I said the soul is not immortal and dies.

But the the Devil is good at deceiving and twisting the truth.

Gen 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
The devil teaches that the soul does not die but this was the first lie....

A living soul is a body with the breath of Life from God.
A dead soul is missing a body or the life from God.

Both are symbols... illustrations. Revelation is symbolic with dragons and frogs and horses that are all symbolic of other things. And the parables of Jesus are parables. Illustrations.

The Bible needs to be read as a whole.. and the rest of the Bible teaches that the dead know nothing.
It teach death as unconsciousness. It does not teach death as immortal life.

At the end of this age following the resurrection and judgment of all. All those
in Christ put on immortality. All the rest pass into the second and final death.

It is a known fact that all pagan religions teach the immortality of the soul
But the Bible states that the soul that sins shall die....
Only God has immortality. We do not have immortality in any form..
1Ti 6:15-16 15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

Like Abraham and many others Jesus gave up the ghost...

Mar 15:37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

The word ghost is G1606 ekpneō

Thayer Definition: to breathe out, breathe out one's life, breathe one's last, expire

They gave up their breath.. the life went back to God.

No a single person in the bible that came back from the dead tell us of any consciousness in death....

That just means separated from God, not extinguished
The Bible describes death as a literal event, not a separation from God... repeatedly stating that "the wages
of sin is death". The Bible also describes the second death as a literal death and destruction, not a separation.

You Know that the devil is a liar...
2Co 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
Joh 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

You don't tell lies and be honest about it...

It is an art of deception which the devil is very good at.

Be careful
The Bible is full of truth that proves that the dead are not conscious. The dead are sleeping and waiting for the resurrection.

Anyone that taught spiritual things about spirits of the dead were put to death because God said to..

Lev 20:27 A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.
Deu 18:10-12
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

To communicate with the dead is an abomination resulting in death.

Is it dead people that are being communicate with or is it the deceiver and liar pretending???

What is consciousness?
The ability to think, choose, and love.
You can not exercise faith or believe in Jesus without consciousness

the state of being aware of and responsive to one's surroundings.

a person's awareness or perception of something

Unconscious people can not worship God.
