I know that. However, ...

Yes, it is - but, by computers/software and not a human.

I am not answering your question simply because you seem to be hell-bent on forcing me to answer it - especially since the answer is painfully obvious.

What was your intent behind putting ' user.' at the end of that statement?

Also, the subtle (or not-so-subtle) "slights" are not helping your cause:

I do not appreciate/like your apparent attitude/disposition.

Only a really naive person does not know about the things that are being done today in the computer realm against the individual computer user.

You apparently are not aware that they utilize whatever data they can get on you to deliver personalized ads to your browser.

It can certainly be said that "they do not care about you" - it is a greed-driven system.

Now, why don't you be nice and answer Eli's question...

They do not care about you. Information is collected and used for your experience and that of other people.

Meh, not so much now that hackers are targeting linux users and apple users these days

You know what they say, anything connected to the net can be hacked whether it's Windows, linux, or apple which is supposedly built on linux

macos is not based on Linux. It was developed using BSD. The core operating system is called Darwin. Any system can be secure or be infiltrated because of stupid users. It is not like on movies where someone figures out how to compromise a system by skill and willpower.

That's pretty hilarious seeing all the big corporations are spying on everyone they can along with the governments of the world doing the same.
People are not being spied upon. Your data is being collected and guess what? No one cares! That data is used to help personalize your experience or to make the experiences of others better. No one has a picture of you with a file folder with all your secrets.

That sort of thing does happen but you have to be actually important for anyone to care.

Let me leave these two postcards on the table and if you wanna discuss, tell the waiter to call me. He has my number, and i'll come down.

1. What is your definition of Privacy and what do you think you're losing in terms of Privacy on the Internet?

2. What is your definition of Spying and who do you think is spying on your devices?

There is spying and data collection. Data collection is part of any business. If you were in Rome in 300 and after the gladiator matches people are looking for a cool drink you made sure you had cool drinks. If a restaurant knows sales are declined on Friday, they figure out it is Catholics and McDonalds introduces a fish sandwich.

Does McDonalds know or care that Joe Smith is having a fish sandwich? No. Does anyone at youtube know or care about my video preferences? No. Youtube as software knows. No one cares.

Spying is when a person DOES have an interest in you. It could be a crazy stalker or you are a celebrity or you are an important person in a controlling regime.

Microsoft and McDonalds do not care about me.

THANK YOU!
This is exactly the definition!

Coffee is on me.

I do not need your coffee because if I fill out this form, I get a small coffee at McDonalds. They desperately want to know my personal preferences. I AM THAT IMPORTANT!!!

Looks like you got enough character flavor for some dessert with that coffee too.
God bless you! :D

My gay duck avatar is my expression on the absurdity of humanity.

Did you ask.... why?

You people are awful. I sincerely have no idea how that was a very well made image of something for no understandable purpose.

I kinda wanna tell you a story about how advertisers wanna sell me stuff in real life but it's kinda long and i just wanna give you the TLDR version.

For 3 years people are knocking on my door or calling me trying to sell me solar panels.
My answer is consistent: I don't want your solar panels because i don't like how they look on my house.
Even if you give them to me for free, i still don't want them. Even if you pay me, i still don't want them.
Bye!

Charter TV and Internet came down my house multiple times trying to sell me a package after i dropped them for Verizon.
I told the guy: Tell you manager that even if you pay me one hundred thousand dollars, i still don't want Charter.
This guy got the message and never came back.

But the solar people still call me.

In the Internet though, you put something called an AD BLOCKER to block the virtual version of these people who knock at your door.
That's the best thing to do and the benefits of that on the internet is that you save more battery life on your phone by blocking ads and your browsing speeds are faster as well.

I mentioned this on my 'superior windows thread'.

That is a good point. You do have people in sales. They do not want to know anything. They want to sell you on something. That is it..

This is what 'data collection' on the Internet is. An extreme version of the real life version.
Just like the solar people will tell other solar people that my house doesn't have solar ... so go to this guy's house and sell him solar ... this is what the tech giants like Google and Microsoft do.

According to whom?? The coffee companies are making 1.21 Gigamillioins and they are secretly obsessed with you
Coffee is a good thing because I enjoy drinking it. Could care less about the politics in the coffee companies or their bottom line.
