Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

@presidente ”Your interpretation lets a man divorce his wife for any ol' reason as long as he gives her a piece of paper, right?” You must be watching Mike Winger videos 🤣 My point exactly, you haven’t even taken the time to work through my view to the end. Just lashing out at something you...

Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

Which one of the scenarios I mentioned involved fornication? None. You really should take the time to understand a view before you attempt to argue against it?

Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

Ok I give up. Jesus taught fornication only divorce and all remarriage is adultery. The pastors and elders say: Sorry Christian ladies, if your husband goes out for milk and never returns, you’re forbidden to file for divorce. Just pray he doesn’t pick up the kids from school one day and serve...

Mark 10:2-5 And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. (The Pharisees asking about the putting away without the cert.) And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? (What does my scripture say?) And they said...

Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

Apoluo is the Greek equivalent to Shalach. Apostasion is the Greek equivalent to Keriythuth: the cutting of the matrimonial bond, divorce, divorcement. See Deuteronomy 24:1

Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

You’ll need to start at the beginning of the interaction to understand my view. Matthew 19:3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? Apoluo: put away. Note the absence of apostasion: DIVORCE DIVORCEMENT

Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

Jewish men have put away their wives without a divorce certificate and remarried for thousands of years, even before Jesus’ earthly ministry, it’s more rare now but still occurs within Orthodox Judaism today. Please research this part of the agunah crisis or go back and read the article. Once...

Glad it’s starting to register. But before you deny my view you should try to understand it fully.

Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

If you had read the original article it would have saved us a bunch of time. It clearly articulates the problem of Jewish men causing women to become chained by refusing to give the get, and what’s worse is, the man often remarries (in synagogue, by his rabbi…) However, the woman is agunah.

Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

You obviously didn’t read the original article I posted. Not cool man. Just google Jewish man remarries without get, you’ll find plenty of material on this part of the agunah crisis. Or go back and read the one I posted.

Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

Are you messing with me bro? The agunah crisis, that has occurred for millennia even to this day, is the proof that it is lawful (within Judaism) to put away a wife without a divorce certificate.

Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

We’re talking about Joseph, who was just, there’s no reason to believe he wouldn’t follow the law. So what was the law for his scenario? All the betrothal dissolution laws I can find, that require a divorce certificate, are betrothals that included sexual intercourse between the betrothed. In...

Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

There’s many “laws” on dissolving a betrothal, interesting to read through them. Some betrothal dissolution laws did require a divorce certificate but I can’t find one for a Joseph and Mary situation. Likely because a woman in that situation would have been dealt with badly to say the least.

Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

Good question, it seems that way when reading about Joseph and Mary, but no. There is no OT text that requires a divorce certificate to dissolve a betrothal and the Jewish “law” wouldn’t require it for Joseph and Mary either. It’s likely just another misconception derived from us dumb...

Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

That’s the way the ESV and other modern translations approach it. They claim Paul is addressing the betrothed here and in other places in verses 25-38 but it doesn’t really make sense if you look at the Greek. And it seems to be a fairly new view, most of the older commentary doesn’t claim Paul...

1 Corinthians 7:27-27 Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife. But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you. Check out the Greek...

Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

@presidente Here’s part of your problem: “Divorce and remarriage was not the original intention. Moses gave the law. He let people divorce and remarry because of the hardness of their hearts. In this midst of this situation, God puts a restriction that the man may not take back a remarried wife...

Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

“But either way if Christ requires some additional things that are not required in the law of Moses it is not a contradiction to the law of Moses.” What are the additional things? These are what I’m commenting on, these additional things you must address for your argument to hold water. If...

Divorce in Catholicism on grounds of adultery

It doesn’t really matter, for this argument to work they must not only eliminate the permission, they must create prohibition to ALL remarriage in Deuteronomy 24:1-4. It can’t be done. That’s why folks like John Piper conclude Jesus simply raised the standard (which is code for changed his mind). 🤨
