John 15 (ESV)

10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.

These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and your joy may be full.
This is My commandment: that you love one another as I have loved you.

(John 15:11-12)

Yes, none of God's commandments contradict love to God and fellow man.

yes, even this:

the LORD said to Moses,
The man must surely be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.
(Numbers 15:35)
because who is this man?

all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them,
“If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness! Why has the Lord brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?”
So they said to one another,
Let us select a leader and return to Egypt.
(Numbers 14:2-4)
this is about Christ, and antichrist.
the people rejected the Good Shepherd, and said, we will take for us the Idol Shepherd

it is love, that what hates God and lies about God receives death, because knowledge of God is life

God gave the Law knowing full well no one could every obey it. Not even the Jews to whom it was given. The Law was given to show people their sinfulness and inability to live up to God's standard - which is perfection. It's purpose is to have people give up any hope of trying to earn righteousness. To prove salvation only comes through faith in the Messiah.

the Law was given to the people who were first proven by the giving of sabbath and manna in Exodus 16, demonstrating them to be faithless.
in Exodus 15 at Marah God said they were to be put to the test, when a stick of wood was added to the bitter water, making it fit to drink. God said, if you follow my instructions you will not be subject to the judgement He will bring on Egypt.

they went to the place of 12 springs and 70 palms and repeated Satan's lie, accusing God of being an evil capricious murderer. just like in Numbers 14 cited in previous post.

there they were 'put to the test' i.e. proven, when God gave them instruction:
they were given manna and told not to keep it past night, but they kept it till morning, and it stank and filled with maggots.
then they were told to gather twice as much on the 6th day, and they were given sabbath & told not to go out and gather on the 7th, but they went out looking, and found none.

this is the people given the Law and how they came to Sinai, to the covenant of sonship of slavery ((Galatians 4))

'give us a king, like the others have kings' they said to Samuel -- rejecting the LORD as their king :(
do we want a religion like the religions of the ones who reject Jesus Christ, through whom came grace and faith? NOPE

Perhaps some other type of pi :giggle:

Should we make mincemeat pie out of him? When I was little, I actually though mincemeat was made of mice. If you swallowed that pi, perhaps you'd die?

Again he entered the synagogue, and a man was there who had a withered hand. They watched him to see whether he would cure him on the sabbath, so that they might accuse him. And he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Come forward.” Then he said to them, “Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the sabbath, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent. He looked around at them with anger; he was grieved at their hardness of heart and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored. The Pharisees went out and immediately conspired with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him. (Mark 3:1–6)

oh no. on the Sabbath. the key to understanding this passage without taking sides with the Pharisees, is to understand the reason for the law given to Moses to give to the Israelites. reading the passage above today (read the whole chapter even better) we say we see the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, but what about those who insist Jesus was sinless and never broke any portion of the law?

perhaps the answer lies in priorities. or perhaps in a person's desire to be 'sinless' so as not be under condemnation

so why then, did Jesus heal on the Sabbath when God said to set that day apart right in the Decalogue (10 commandments) and do no work on that day ?
the sabbath keepers accused Jesus of being a sinner because he broke the sabbath
john 9:16

Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

the sabbath keepers accused Jesus of being a sinner because he broke the sabbath...
How could God break His own sabbath commandment? But it also included doing good works on Sabbath days, and Christ's enemies hated Him for that.

The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? (Luke 13:15)

And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day? And they could not answer him again to these things. (Luke 14:5,6)

He was accused but was He guilty of what they were accusing Him of?

Did the Lord Jesus break the 4th commandment by healing people on the Sabbath? Or were the Pharisees mistaken in their accusation?

Was it strictly forbidden to refrain from doing miracles on Saturdays in the Law?

enjoy yourselves

for me, this thread is history :)

I doubt anyone who has not read or participated in this thread previously, is going to read the entire thing, without which, your response is most likely not going to address what the op was about anyway

further, some people did read the entire thing and still are clueless and I am not interested in explaining my intent to those people all over again when they believe the gospels and several other books are not doctrinal in any way

and since I created the op, well, that's the lay of the land

Matthew 5 (ESV)

18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

i doubt very seriously if the pharisees where mistaken when it came to the law. they accused him seveal times.

why did Jesus never address the accusation of him breaking the sabbath and show them in the law that they were wrong?

Jesus told a man to take up his bed and walk and break the sabbath day

John 5:8-10 (KJV)
8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.

Because the Lord knew their intention. The Pharisees weren't interested in real Righteousness before God. They were more interested in taking down the growing reputation of the Lord Jesus.

What do you say to a Lawyer who accuses you of breaking the law? Even though you know you didn't and you know they know you didn't?

I agree that Jesus didn’t actually break an Old Testament command. He violated the interpretations religious leaders had developed around the biblical commands of keeping the Sabbath day holy.

the Pharisees added their own laws....the same way, the people who say they keep the sabbath in 2020 do.

Do you keep the sabbath day holy?
