High carbon can be much harder. So while it can stay sharp longer or hold an edge, it's also much harder to sharpen if you allow it to get dull. I simply maintain mine by hitting them on a stone or strop after each use. High carbon can be extraordinarily sharp.

I've got a million dollar question guys, does anyone have any experience with ammo with steel cases? We just bought my wife a rifle chambered for 5.56/.223 and at about a buck a round for brass cased ammo I'm inclined to buy the steel cased at about .65 a round but I'm not familiar with it.

I have always been of the mind that any "steel" case will be softer than any material a firearm is made of. 5.56 is slightly dimensionally different than 223, 5.56 is slightly smaller to permit greater reliability in a military firearm, so 5.56 in a >223 chamber is ok, 223 in a 5.56 may lead to problems, which do you have?

Depends on the rifle. Some rifles will feed it just fine some just won't feed it.

It's a Ruger Mini 14 chambered for 5.56. Everything that I had read about not using 5.56 in a .223 was because of higher the higher pressures of 5.56 ammo, not a dimensional difference in the ammo.

I have read that some of this difference is to increase reliability in military firearms, and important consideration. We should always look at our discharge ammunition cases for signs of over pressure, etc.
There is a nice diagram of about half way down that helps explain.

Summary: Instead of there being two or three or four possible chambers (.223 Rem, .223 Wylde, 5.56mm Noveske, 5.56mm NATO) and two possible pressure levels of ammunition (.223 Rem and 5.56mm NATO), there are a nearly infinite number of points between the extremes. This can result in differing pressures with the same ammunition. It’s possible to ensure that you have something closer to the chamber you want to buy via purchasing a high quality rifle (or upper receiver assembly, or barrel) from a known source.

I can't help but wonder why someone would try this. Ultimately I would have been more impressed with the round being fired from the appropriate weapon since it would have been by far more destructive to their target medium.

Yes, my wife bought one and it was one on recall .. She got her CWP then found out about the recall , she likes hers too, the 9mm .. She got an email today they received it so she should have it back in a few days ....

Men do stuff. They do stuff like that. Not great for sure.
The brain isn't fully developed till around 28 or 30.
I suppose that is why so many trips to the ER start with "Hey everybody! Watch this!"
A good lesson in being very careful when you buy a used firearm.

I wasn't impressed with my wifes EZ .. It was easy for her to shoot and operate but the accuracy was horrible imo .. The barrel had side to side play you could move with your fingers .. But she loves it and hit the target enough .. I would highly recommend trying one out before buying ..
