I have always been of the mind that any "steel" case will be softer than any material a firearm is made of. 5.56 is slightly dimensionally different than 223, 5.56 is slightly smaller to permit greater reliability in a military firearm, so 5.56 in a >223 chamber is ok, 223 in a 5.56 may lead to problems, which do you have?
I have read that some of this difference is to increase reliability in military firearms, and important consideration. We should always look at our discharge ammunition cases for signs of over pressure, etc.
There is a nice diagram of about half way down that helps explain.

This can result in differing pressures with the same ammunition. It’s possible to ensure that you have something closer to the chamber you want to buy via purchasing a high quality rifle (or upper receiver assembly, or barrel) from a known source.

The Smith and Wesson M&P Shield EZ is being recalled. I just bought one this year. Luckily the EZ I purchased was not manufactured between March 1st and October 31st.

Does anyone else own a Smith and Wesson EZ? My wife sure loves it! Easy to load and rack.

I wasn't impressed with my wifes EZ .. It was easy for her to shoot and operate but the accuracy was horrible imo .. The barrel had side to side play you could move with your fingers .. But she loves it and hit the target enough .. I would highly recommend trying one out before buying ..
