At the bottom of your post you had Mathew 7:1 and like a chess game I will move or add Mat 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
The only way to use that verse 16 is by judging what others do and say. For me that is what I read in context.

More in contextt with what you have shared, Jesus teeaches us to judge for ourselves what is right, but this is judgment for ourselves and never of others to condemnation, thus we judge for ouselves what is right but never condemning others. So we go through this age with our Lord knowing with whom to associate, who needs salvation, and at times just whom to avoid for the time. The operative word in judging is condemnation, we do not condemn while judgeing for ourselves what is right. God bless all in Jesus Christ, amen.
