That's MAJOR production engineering! 10,000 workers at one plant and high quality control. I doubt there's anything comparable today.

People who were here during WW2 mention how all were galvanized for the war effort, I believe them, the bright red lipstick of those days was chosen because hitler hated it.

That rearward BLAST was devastating! I should have asked a tank man who I went to school with how they could tolerate the dBs of noise because I was curious.
I found the sighting system just as interesting. High tech back then worked with a ballistically identical 50 cal marker. Today everything military is computerized including many of their DMR scopes. Same purpose with different tech.
I have a case from one of the 50 cal spotter rounds, shorter than a Browning 50, developed to duplicate the recoilless rifle trajectory, the primer has a brass tube extending the ignition flame a couple inches forward, the charge will burn back to the base from the ignition point. That was an Elmer Keith idea and pretty secret in ww2.

That round must be a very rare military collectable .
The only recoilless projectile I was familiar with were the bazooka and the shoulder mounted tubes that are common knowledge. I had no idea they designed it in such a big gun.
I see why it was a fire and run away item. You couldn't leave it hooked up to a Jeep.
That's pretty neat. He was a Bazooka Operator!
I heard that you wouldn't want to go behind one of those when they were launched either.
He had to be mighty courageous to get anywhere near a tank. They not only had the heavy gun but an anti aircraft/personnel auto. I don't think there were many volunteers for the bazooka.
I think you also need a secondary weapon if you’re gonna carry a gun, like pepper spray. Excellent training is vital in owning a gun. The only thing that matters is exonerating yourself in court if you ever shoot someone.
