The best part about having a category of people it's ok to hate is that you can usually justify adding more people to it because you don't like them. If you're really good you can put the whole world in that category and then you don't have to worry about those pesky commands to love your enemies and do good to those who hate you.
The best way for a Christian to deal with that inconvenience is to claim the people you want to hate are a danger. Then you can rant about how dangerous they are without having to worry about trivialities like loving your enemy.

Hey it worked for Haaman. And for the people against Daniel. And for the Pharisees, priests and etc. who hated Jesus.

Cinder,

If you ever read the Bible from cover to cover, please pay attention to the parts when God's wrath was poured out upon those He despised, that He hated.

He was not even pleased with an otherwise good King who made an allegiance with a wicked king.
Are you holier than God?
What do you do with those verses I posted? It might not agree with your opinion, but you should have an open mind enough to learn something new about Him.

I'm surprised to hear such a callous statement come from the mind of a sweet lady. I expected the usual slander from Lynx, but you?

I expected some compassion for the victims of such diabolical mass murderers. Instead you try to pour shame upon the family member whose family was slaughtered.
Shame upon you Cinder.

Please permit me to say
One should hate the Evil that people do and shun it. But love those doing the Evil, have pity and mercy on them. Pray for the salvation of their souls. That is why we should take the pains to tell them of the Immense love of our Christ for evil doers. If God hates that we interact with the ungodly. He will start with the Christ. But no He doesn't.
In that, as Christians, we should love every single soul because God loves them.
So His wrath is BEING kindled Romans 1 says against some group of people including the ungodly. For now He is being patient hoping people will come to the saving knowledge of His Son the Christ. However the day of wrath is coming and those who refused to repent will be consumed by His wrath.

I don't normally bring this up, but I was slandered in the worst way this week. I'm not talking about the lynx here who is up to his typical back biting insults and defamation.
Guess what Edith?
I tried to lead him to Christ.
How many people did you witness the gospel to this week?
I'm not asking about how many wicked people did you harm that you showed love to.
I'm looking and can't find your gospel message of love anywhere. Maybe I missed it.
Yet you want me to express love to mass murderers and love those personal enemies of my Father.

Might have had something to say pertaining to the topic, but ...

*slowly backs out of thread*

Cinder went from sweet lady to callous, just because she disagreed with you?

Judge and jury again.

Now if I know someone, and usually that person is quite logical, but suddenly that person disagrees with me... I'd take a hard look at whether I might be wrong.

Which is more probable? That someone who is usually a nice person and also right has suddenly flipped out? Or that she is also right this time, and you happen to be wrong?

Please calm down. You're channeling Steven Anderson and it's scary to see!

Give your anger and hate to Jesus please. Let Him heal your pain at the loss of your wonderful parents by the hand of medical professionals. Because hanging on to unforgiveness and hate is just going to eat you up and prevent you from moving on and growing in Jesus.

I have read my Bible, among my friends I'm known for how well I know my Bible. But why would anyone advise another to focus on the few parts when God is practically forced to pour out his wrath rather than the whole council of scripture. There we see that the smallest bit of repentance is enough to turn away God's wrath. We also see that very rarely (and never since Jesus came) has God tasked his people with enacting his wrath on others.

Of course one of the most important things about understanding scripture is keeping things in context. Which is why it's important to read the whole chapter and see that in Romans 12 just a few verses after we read that we're to hate what is evil (what not who) and cling to the good we also read to bless those who persecute us and pray for their blessing. And we're instructed to not pay back evil for evil, leave vengeance to God rather than taking it into our own hands, and to not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good. Be open minded and open hearted enough to ask yourself if you're following all the commands in that chapter or if you've just decided to fixate on the one that justifies the hate you cherish in your heart.

As for the 2 Chronicles passage, Jehoshaphat had just come back from a battle he was in because of his alliance with Ahab of Israel. God wasn't keen on that alliance and the prophet told Jehoshaphat as much, but we don't see any consequences of God's wrath in that chapter and in the next chapter when enemies attacked and Jehoshaphat prayed... God miraculously took care of the enemies and they didn't have to lift a sword to fight. So other than another chance to glom on to the word wrath to justify holding hate and anger in your heart.. I can't see that this passage really demonstrates anything about God holding anger against people.

But if you hang around christian online forums we see plenty of people who are similar to you. People who think they are at least as holy if not holier than God and so can pass judgement and hold onto hate and other ungodly things without risk because they're so holy and in tune with God. But the rest of us can see the arrogance and pride under that veneer of spirituality because the Bible tells us:
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these.

And it also tells us:
Just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.
21 “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. 22 On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’

And yes we're sorry for your loss and for all deaths that could be prevented, but it sounds like either slander or unhinged grief to say that just because your family members died under medical care that they were murdered by the medical establishment. Our system has many flaws, far too many medical errors, and bad treatments, but an accusation of murder requires proof of intent to kill and it is ludicrous to think that most medical professionals are guilty of such.

You sound like you are part of a medical establishment, otherwise:

A. You would not be so defensive about people who you nothing about other than my first hand eye witness testimony.

B. You would not be a busybody going about tattling, speaking things which they aught not. I Timothy 5:13...I Tim 3:3...without natural affection, false accusor, disposers of those that are good, deceiving and being deceived.

C. You proclaim a fake gospel by taking the Words of my Lord out of context in Matthew 7 to testify the opposite of what He warned.

D. You belittle the prophetic warning of 2 Chronicles 19:2 as if it was no big deal since the consequences were not recorded here. The next chapter does record consequences for Jehosaphat for his alliance with the son of Ahab and Jezebel.

" Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish."

E. It is very clear that Jesus does Not change His attributes from the time He smokes the cities of the well watered plains of Sodom to the most judgemental book, which you must be familiar with, Revelation. He tells His disciples to love their personal enemies, NOT the enemies of God. That's a common distinction, that Hindus who mock the Bible like Ghandi, twist.

"Do not I hate them, I LORD, that hate Thee? And am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? I hate them with a perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies."

Under the Holy Spirit's inspiration David agreed with God.
Besides the example of Jesus, David was a prime example of someone who spared Saul's life yet hated God's enemies.
Let that sink in.
Do you know how many criminals were shown mercy, who's lives I spared while lawfully justified with using deadly force to defend myself. No you don't.
Nor are you worthy of that information.

F. You were not addressed in my initial post when I opened up to relate personal experiences. You are not worthy of such from my personal life.
My Mom's honorable name and life is in fact worthy of respect a son of God gives her.
The slander of some sassy woman who supports the enemies of God while impugning worthless opinions about her legacy will not be tolerated.
If her murdered body is to carry value, it will be to save lives of those who still have hope. Those are the people that we continue to love and will continue to protect!

My my... She disagrees with you and you pronounce such harsh judgments against her!

Fascinating. You jump right over "she has made good sense in the past, so maybe I should examine whether I am wrong" and go straight to "cinder has suddenly and profoundly shifted her attitude, and is now both stupid and nasty."

I mean I knew your first defense against disagreement was to demonize those who disagreed with you, but this is a bit extreme even for you.

But... Go what what you know, I guess. And you sure know how to throw maledictions.

Hi H & H, as we continue to move toward soon fulfillment the good will get better, the bad will get worse, the adversary will continue to draw in those who will not take all things to Him who will only guide with truth.
What you are rightfully addressing I am seeing here as well, those whose posts had been in line with Galatians c5 v 22&23 seem to have switched.
One teacher I have grown from has a quote, "If the devil can't get you he will send a narcissist", meaning the adversary will constantly work against His Own.
Stay the course brother.

Or maybe I just believe in giving everyone a fair hearing and not judging an entire group of people by the failings of a few. Especially when your response to criticism in this thread calls into question your reliability and impartiality as an eyewitness. I don't defend a bad system, but I do stand and say that everyone who is a cog in that bad system should not be judged as inherently evil because they're in a bad system.

B. You would not be a busybody going about tattling, speaking things which they aught not. I Timothy 5:13...I Tim 3:3...without natural affection, false accusor, disposers of those that are good, deceiving and being deceived.
I've done nothing that you haven't also done. We're just having a discussion on an internet forum. If you post something on the internet where everyone can read and respond to it, responding to it is not being a busybody or doing someone wrong.

C. You proclaim a fake gospel by taking the Words of my Lord out of context in Matthew 7 to testify the opposite of what He warned.
I didn't even offer any commentary on that passage. But just out of curiosity what do you think that passage means. I believe Christ is saying that you can do a lot of religious things, God can work through you, and yet if Christ is not ruling the thoughts and attitudes of your heart, if you don't have his attitude as related in Philippians 2 or display the fruit of his spirit in your life, then you aren't really one of his and you won't enter the kingdom of heaven. And that's a good heart check for all who call themselves Christians to run on themselves every so often. Should we not warn one another if it seems that one of us may be in danger of that verse being true about them?

D. You belittle the prophetic warning of 2 Chronicles 19:2 as if it was no big deal since the consequences were not recorded here. The next chapter does record consequences for Jehosaphat for his alliance with the son of Ahab and Jezebel.

Context again. You're talking about a narrative passage, not a direct prophecy to the nation or the people of God, not a command. Simply a retelling of what happened. And in both cases the message seems to be, be careful about who you enter into alliance or partnership with so that you don't find yourself caught between God and those who would stand against him. But grabbing a second story, with a second prophetic message if anything undermines the idea that God's wrath was upon Jehoshaphat all his reign for one mistake and instead shows that these moments of bad judgement were mere moments in the reign of a king who overall pleased God ( 2 Chron 20:32) , but wasn't perfect.

E. It is very clear that Jesus does Not change His attributes from the time He smokes the cities of the well watered plains of Sodom to the most judgemental book, which you must be familiar with, Revelation. He tells His disciples to love their personal enemies, NOT the enemies of God.
When it comes to people, I don't see the Bible making any distinction. It makes it very clear that we're to repay evil with good and leave vengeance to God. But again sure is convenient to have a category like enemies of God, you can put people into to make them exceptions to that command.

And again the very next verse is "Search me oh God and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting". A lot could be said about David, but what we know for sure is that in spite of his faults and personal failings (which the Bible doesn't seem to shy away from) he really loved God and was devoted to him. And turned to God when he realized he'd sinned and failed.

And are you seriously trying to wear as some kind of badge of honor or righteousness that you didn't kill people you could have "gotten away" with killing but didn't need to kill? I could've killed someone but didn't is a pretty low level of righteousness, why do you think this is something to boast about?

F. You were not addressed in my initial post when I opened up to relate personal experiences. You are not worthy of such from my personal life.

You posted it on the internet, for everyone and their brother to read about your personal life. It's fair game for commentary and all I said was that I was sorry for your loss and it was clear you were deeply grieved and hurting about it. I said nothing about your mother or her life or character nor would I have any intention to speak ill of her without knowing anything about her. And all I'll say now is that I think it would be sad if the legacy of the goodness of her life were eclipsed by a son's desire to punish someone for her death.
