To answer your first question, I guess because part of being god-like is having free will. Do you think God didn't know beforehand everything that has happened would happen? Why then did he let them happen? Would a caring parent let not good things happen to their child if it was in their power to stop those things from happening? Perhaps if it was for the child's long-term good they might.
“I guess because part of being god-like is having free will. “
right they were made in his image , they were made free “ you are free to eat any fruit in Eden , but you must not eat this fruit you’ll die “
“Do you think God didn't know beforehand everything that has happened would happen?”
having foreknowledge of what’s going to happen before it does , doesn’t mean you are causing it or had it planned is what I was meaning to say . Knowing something will happen is different that planning and executing it
“Why then did he let them happen?”
free Will like you said . You can’t make a person free to choose and then dictate and force thier choice and actions . God gave earth to mankind in the beginning to have dominion over it. He “let it “ happen because he gave them dominion over all the earth and doesn’t go back on his word
notice who he blames for what’s happened ?
“And GOD saw that
the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
And
it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
The
earth also was corrupt before God, and the
earth was filled with violence. And
God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt;
for
all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, The
end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I
will destroy them with the earth.”
Genesis 6:5-7, 11-13 KJV
Remember just ten generations before tbat god looked at his creation and said this
“And
God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”
Genesis 1:31
and had said this of and to mankind
before they are the fruit
“
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God
said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.”
Genesis 1:27-29 KJV
they were made in his image , and likeness he looked upon them and said they were very good he blesses them and gives them dominion over the earthly part of his creation that’s why he lets them act freely because he made them with free Will . That’s exactly the point they were created with free Will
now look how that changed things God can be provoked from blessing man to wrath upon them in only ten generations of sinful choices ot can go from “very good “ to only evil all the time in just a few generations of mankind .
do we think god planned to create everything and call it all very good , give man dominion ,
have Satan tempt man to sin so they would die , grieve his own heart because man has become wicked , repent because he created them at all , then declares because they’ve filled creation with violence and sin and wickedness he’s going to destroy them because he’s repenting for creating them ?
Most reject the idea but have you noticed that throughout the Bible God makes good offers of covenants filled of blessing to mankind and they refuse to obey him and then provoke him to wrath against them ?
mankind has an agency in the things the bible speaks of them
