Yes. Immersion. Let's not make a religious word out of it. If I wanted to wash the table I would, in the Greek, baptizō a rag into water. This was a very common word. The rag, then, by immersion into water, would be equipped for the work I have for it.
All baptisms are like that: they equip the believer for their walk and destiny.
And please don't say "There is only one baptism". Certainly that's what the verse "One Lord, one faith, one baptism..." says, but that's not what it means. The bible speaks of 4 baptisms for the believer in Christ. The context of the "one baptism" is the one that joins us in the Spirit into the "one body" Paul mentions: the baptism by the Spirit.
This is the same theme Paul taught the Corinthians:
"For by one Spirit we all were baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free people..."
Baptism in water does not join us together, it separates our conscience from the curse of the law and the words of an accuser.
Baptism in fire purifies us to conform us to His character.
Baptism with the Spirit, which Jesus does from heaven, empowers us for our calling.
And, as I mentioned above, baptism by the Spirit places us, each believer, into the one Body of Christ. Upon this baptism, the one baptism the Spirit completes, we have unity.
It should confound you that Paul, while teaching baptism, wrote to the Corinthians:
I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, Paul... if baptism in water (the only baptism man can assist another man to accomplish) was so important, how can you thank God you did not baptize someone?! And how can you NOT remember who you immersed in water if it was central to their faith?!
Make no mistake, brother, I too believe we have a responsibility to walk out our salvation and to obey God. I believe all believers should be baptized in water.
“Yes. Immersion. Let's not make a religious word out of it. “
lol I don’t think I’ve ever used tbat word so no problem there .
“And please don't say "There is only one baptism". Certainly
that's what the verse "One Lord, one faith, one baptism..." says, but that's not what it means. “
yeah this type of thinking is why I don’t agree . I think it means what it says. And I stay away from people explaining to me why it doesn’t mean what it says. So that could be our issue here.
“The bible speaks of 4 baptisms for the believer in Christ. “
ahhh ok well
I’ll stick with what the apostles Jesus ordained said. So Paul wins for me on how many baptisms there are just like he says one body one spirit one lord and god I believe there’s one of all he’s said there so well Have to also disagree there .
“Paul mentions:
the baptism by the Spirit.
This is the same theme Paul taught the Corinthians:
"For by one Spirit we all were baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free people..."
yeah he filled his apostles with his spirit and hey baptized people in his name for remission of sins like this
“Then
Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and
preached unto him Jesus.
And as they went on their way,
they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
And Philip said,
If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
And
he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And
when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.”
Acts 8:35-39 KJV
jesus told his apostles he would baptize them with his spirit and he did at pentocost and then they began to do what he commanded them to do preach the gospel and baptize believers in his name for remission of sins
“
Go ye therefore, and teach
all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Matthew 28:19-20
“Then Peter said unto them,
Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,
and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
Acts 2:38
Im not willing to unlearn scripture or reject the apostles doctrine In order to reject baptism or pretend it’s not something that’s done in water or pretend God didn’t send baptism for remission of sins to us. It’s all really plain and clear.
Why would I want to not believe what they taught ? What benefit is there in tbat ?
whats baptism for Peter chosen apostle of Jesus the lord filled with his spirit why do we get baptized ?
“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and
be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,
and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
Acts 2:38
hmm can you explain more about baptism for remission of sins chosen apostle Paul filled with Jesus spirit also ?
“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
Romans 6:3-4 KJV
( continues through chapter 7 )
hmm any more you could say about
baptism for remission of sins in Jesus name apostle Paul ?
“in whom also
ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands,
in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.”
Colossians 2:11-12
hmm surely there isn’t any more related to baptism into Christ apostle Paul ?
“For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For
as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. And
if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
Galatians 3:26-27, 29 KJV
But there are four baptisms apostle Paul you must be secretly discussing the others
“There is
one body, and
one Spirit, even as ye are called in
one hope of your calling;
one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”
Ephesians 4:4-6 KJV
hmmm yeah there’s probably multiple of all those things or maybe there’s just one of everything Paul said except for baptisms yeah there are several that darn water baotism zeke that’s not the right baptism ….
those apostles Peter and Philip just didn’t get it
“For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And
he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.”
Acts 10:46-48 KJV
It would be really hard for me brother to forget what the New Testament apostles taught regarding baptism in order to agree with other things not there
