and the cheese spreads?
I was thinking along the lines of

keep it in the fridge, but let it sit out for a while to get nice and soft and spreadable. Spread onto some Keebler Club Crackers

my mom used to buy some boxed cheeses that were from Europe, individually wrapped in triangles (the box was always round)...
I remember when I was little and we lived in Germany there was something like that :D
oh! it was one of my favorite things (see another item for a favorite childhood food thread ;) )
I don't recall what they were or even if we could get them here in the states. I asked my mom about them once, but she didn't really remember what I was trying to describe. I don't know if this was it or not, but the closest thing I've found here has been

though my childhood memory recalls something wrapped in small cubes with a taste/texture similar, but that was 30 something + years ago

Yes, similar to the ones I remember, cubes sometimes but mostly triangles.

And then there was also string cheese, which became popular with kids after my own childhood had ended...

Alas, you caught me!!!

I love a grilled cheese sandwich made with Kraft singles -- my Mom used to make them that way.

I also use them on burgers. 😳

Kraft singles take me back to my childhood. 😎
And the double standard appears. You disparaged Velveeta and cheese whiz, but like kraft vegetable oil singles.

I like Gouda every once in a while also... oh! I see GG has just mentioned it... and the cheese spreads? We have Cheez Whiz here, which we always had at home when I was a kid, and my mom used to buy some boxed cheeses that were from Europe, individually wrapped in triangles (the box was always round)... they were kind of a novelty item more than a favourite for flavour, kind of like some smoked cheeses... good at first but not a contender in the long run... I bought my first jar of Cheez Whiz in decades a few years ago when my sister had to give it up following her mastectomies... she said it was the hardest thing for her to eliminate from her refrigerator, so I bought a jar of it in her honour... though I never did finish it off LOL And what about Velveeta? We always had that at home too! My closest sister requested lasagne from my mom who had never made it before and she made it with Velveeta

Cheese whiz is more wiz than cheese...

I like pepper jack. It makes a great grilled cheese or ham and cheese sandwich.

It really is weird how I like some things that are almost the same but in only one form and not another. But I'm sure other people are like this with other things as well.

I have a good friend who's a great cook -- she made a big pot of mac'n'cheese, and it looked scrumptious -- until she started adding mass amounts of Velveeta cheese cubes. I just couldn't. I don't know why, but I just don't like the product an any other form other than pre-wrapped slices.

Even then, some of them taste "off" to me. They make Kraft singles in different variations (white, 2%, etc.) and I tend to prefer the original, though the 2% are ok.

I've also tried store brands of pre-wrapped sliced cheese and... BLECH!!!! Same with the boxed mac'n'cheese.

It's just gotta be Kraft. (ALTHOUGH, their box now proudly displays something like no artificial this and no artificial that -- personally, I think it tasted better when it was even more fake than it is now.)

We had the singles in the fridge too, of course, when I was a child, for the inclusion in lunch sandwiches,
but those would mostly be for those who went to work, like my dad and oldest siblings, because as school
children we came home for lunch ever day. But grilled cheese and tomato soup was a favourite lunch for sure,
though I am thinking that as an adult I definitely switched to using more thickly sliced cheddar for a greater ooze.

And what about cream cheese? I mean, cheese is really quite versatile when it can be used in a delectable dessert.

And there was always the rolled cream cheese with a maraschino cherry in the centre finger food sandwiches/pinwheels.

:D

Extra sharp cheddar is the dominant cheese in our fridge. White or yellow cheddar is fine with me. A bowl of kalamata olives and feta cheese is to die for. Smoked gouda has a place in my life. Gruyere is incredibly good where cheese is called for in casseroles and makes the best scalloped potatoes with cheese. It is a pricey cheese so I only have it maybe once a year. Cream cheese also has a place in my life. Provolone is most excellent in steak and cheese sandwiches.

My preference for diced, shredded, sliced, etc. depends upon what it's being served with. If by itself, slices.

My favorite food is the hamburger and with that I prefer in this order: extra sharp white cheddar, extra sharp yellow cheddar, havarti.

I do not like the stinky cheeses or the ones that have green/blue stuff on them.

I'm thankful that I'm not allergic to dairy products.

What does the Bible say about cheese? The bottom line is: It's for it!

1 Samuel 17:18 Take along these ten cheeses to the commander of their unit. See how your brothers are and bring back some assurance from them.

2 Samuel 17:29 honey and curds, sheep, and cheese from cows’ milk for David and his people to eat. For they said, “The people have become exhausted and hungry and thirsty in the wilderness.”

Job 10:10 Did you not pour me out like milk and curdle me like cheese,
