What if God had written IN STONE?

He also said in Matt. 5:20 that a Christian's righteousness should exceed that of the hypocritical teachers of the Law who taught but did not obey the 10 Commandments which further teaches obedience to the Commandments. By this, He was declaring that those who don't even teach them have no chance at all of entering the Kingdom.

Jesus taught under the Sinai covenant, and He primarily spoke to people who were under the Sinai covenant. That covenant did not come to an end until His death on the cross, after He had fulfilled it. The new covenant in His blood did not begin until the last supper, and we Christians are under the new covenant, not the obsolete and long-since-faded away old Sinai covenant.

The first followers of Jesus were Jews, and the first Christians were Jesus' Jewish disciples.

Jesus obeyed the Law in its entirety, as it applied to Him. He mocked the Pharisees for following man-made traditions, not for following the Law. Indeed, when criticizing the Pharisees for their practices, He said,

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former." (Matthew 23:23)

This clearly shows that He expected the Jews to follow more than just the ten commandments.

Theo, nobody in this thread has claimed that we obey the 10 Commandments as a means to salvation.

And you can rest assured God will send NOBODY to hell for obeying Him. Quite the opposite.

You're a grown adult and you have no excuse for not reading the entire Bible and learning exactly what God intended to teach. If you have come away from all that believing that God will send people to hell for obeying the 10 Commandments, you have a lot more to worry about than being right or wrong on a discussion forum.

I'd highly recommend you forget all that you may have spent a lot of money being taught and begin reading the Bible fresh from the very beginning because you have been woefully led astray.

If one thinks that their salvation depends on obeying the ten commandments, and they don't obey them PERFECTLY, they will indeed wind up in 'hell'.

You have completely overlooked Paul's message to the Galatians, and think that your effort to obey the commandments adds ANYTHING to your walk with the Lord. You're deceived, and you have fallen from whatever grace you had.

Do you believe there are there any New Testament works from Jesus Christ which are absolutely unnecessary and, if so, which ones?

What is the issue?

Jesus taught them, obeyed them and expected all Christians to obey them just as 1 Jn. 2:6 makes obvious.

What is the calamity that would take place for you if all Christians began following the 10 Commandments?

What harm would come to anybody or any society anywhere if people returned to that level of reverence for God?

That's actually one of the saddest aspects of all of you guys' objections to this thread.

You all believe that God made a mistake; that He didn't put enough Commandments in Stone or that He didn't know, or forgot, that He would be doing away with them some day.

None of which is true.

He knew exactly what He was doing and He did it IN STONE to silence all nonsense naysayers.

But He also knew .... haters gonna hate.

That's not my issue, it's the modern Christian's issue.

No Christian has anything against any of the other 9 Commandments, but they've been taught to hate the 4th Commandment.

That makes you, and all of them, hypocrites.

Do you murder, steal, lie, commit adultery, abuse your parents, etc.?

Most likely not.

But bring up the Holy Sabbath and you all cringe like sunlight has hit a vampire because you have been conditioned to believe there is a stigma around God's Holy Day that is taught nowhere in Scripture.

Obeying them to what end? And by who's endeavor?
All Christians fulfill every commandment as they walk in the Spirit. It's not about adherence to the law, but your purpose in doing so and the power by which it is achieved.
You have made an idol of the law. It consumes you. Christians are consumed to know the One true God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent.
 
i always enjoy the words that come from Jesus:

17. But he said to him, "Why do you call me good? There is none good except God alone. But if you want to enter life, keep the commandments."

I think He sums it up pretty straight forward.

notice: nothing about keeping the Law, only keeping the Commandments [Moral Law]
