John 10:7-18 (ESV)
7 So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13 He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. 17 For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”
Yes - but we were talking about the OT/Psalms that Jesus was going to come to lay down his life!

Not sure what you mean by that? Could you expound?

To me, the text is perfectly clear and not meant in anyway to be allegorical... Jesus was talking about His need to give up His life (actually, lay it down by His own will), and that this was a task/charge that God, His Father gave Him.

My understanding was that you were going to provide evidence / passages from the OT or Psalms - that showed that Jesus was going to come to lay down his life!

Luke 24:25-27
Then He said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?" And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

He will bring the people back to the law to save them from sin - Matt 5:18 not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
*ahem*

Galatians 3:21-25
Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

No, I never said that I was planning on doing that.
I get the sense that whatever I did post from the O.T., you would merely dismiss as not being about Jesus Himself or not specifically calling Him by name, or not specifically saying whatever needs to be said to change your mind from your hardened position... forgive me if that's presumptuous of me.

Anyway, I'd suggest that you read the whole of Isiah 53, to start with. Verses 3-12 I think can summarize though:

He was despised and forsaken of men,
A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
And like one from whom men hide their face
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
Surely our griefs He Himself bore,
And our sorrows He carried;
Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten of God, and afflicted.
But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
And by His scourging we are healed.
All of us like sheep have gone astray,
Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him.
He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He did not open His mouth;
Like a lamb that is led to slaughter,
And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers,
So He did not open His mouth.
By oppression and judgment He was taken away;

Psalm 22 is also good... esp. Vs. 14-18

14 I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint;
my heart is like wax;
it is melted within my breast;
15 my strength is dried up like a potsherd,
and my tongue sticks to my jaws;
you lay me in the dust of death.
16 For dogs encompass me;
a company of evildoers encircles me;
they have pierced my hands and feet[b]—
17 I can count all my bones—
they stare and gloat over me;
18 they divide my garments among them,
and for my clothing they cast lots.

Bible interpretation always must depend on the context of and the other words in the verse. The key word in this verse is "declare." Why? It's because when God declares through his people his forgiveness for unbelievers' past sins, his offer stands, but it's the hearers' responsibility whether they accept it or not. Look at Ezekiel 33, where God says to Ezekiel if he warns Judah about the coming disaster like a watchman on the city wall, it's fully the people's responsibility what they do with the warning. That passage was a big comfort for me during 27 years of being a preacher.

God does not believe in sacrifice, this came from pagans
*ahem*

Genesis 4:4
Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat.
And the LORD respected Abel and his offering.

Christ is God and He "by one sacrifice" has perfected forever we who are being sanctified. ((Hebrews 10:14))

There is no real evidence in the Bible Jesus died for our sins - Only Paul implies these things well after Jesus
*ahem*

John 3:14-15
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

Isaiah 53:5
He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities;
the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.

This is sacrifice of animals - not human sacrifice

Isaiah 53:5
He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities;
the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.

Hi many refer to Isaiah 53, however this is ill judged, a summary below.

  • 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; [Luke 10:1, Jesus has at least 70 followers, and in other verses we're told that he fed and healed thousands (John 6:9-11, Luke 17:11-19 and other verses)]
  • 53:5 But he was wounded ……[not die]

  • 53:7 …..yet he did not open his mouth:….. [2 possibly ways to interpret this
  • a) Jesus literally never spoke a single word during his trial - which is incorrect as Jesus spoke before Pontius Pilot & the Jews & "Eloi Eloi lama sabachtani!"
  • b) Jesus did not object to GOD Almighty's. This is also wrong, because again, Jesus cried during the crucifixion "My GOD my GOD why have you forsaken me?", and he also prayed Endlessly Matthew 26:36-44, Luke 6:12)]

  • 53:9 He was given a grave among the wicked, a burial place with evildoers, Though he had done no wrong, nor was deceit found in his mouth.
  • i) some translations say ‘his death’ the Hebrew word Mawth has been mistranslated, should read death or at best in death (symbolic)…
ii) Jesus was not given a Grave with the wicked and was not buried – he was placed in a tomb by himself.

  • 53:10 Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
  • [Jesus life was not prolonged 33years]
  • Jesus is meant to fulfil so no one else needs to come after – yet in Acts 11 & 21 we have another Prophet – Agabus. Acts 11 has a whole group of Prophets Antioch. Daniel 9:24 and 7:13 the Jews believe King Cyrus to be the messiah. Isaiah 45:1-3 - "Thus says Yahweh to his anointed, to Cyrus ……
  • Psalms 91 - Surely he will save you… / but it will not come near you. / no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. / For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; / they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. / “Because he[b] loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, / He will call on me, and I will answer him; / With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

Conclusion – Isaiah 53 – doesn’t prove that Jesus died for our sins.
