Throughout the ages various cultures and countries have tried to pinpoint the Gog prophecy.
When France invaded Russia during the 19th Napoleonic Wars, many Russian theologians at the time were calling it “The War of Gog and Magog.”
Guesses about the said prophecy extend back further in time. Some theologians from the first century thought it was talking about Alexander the Great.
During the Cold War, some Christian Americans believed Magog was Russia because the Soviet Union was our country’s mortal enemy at the time. The Cold War has been over with for thirty years now, so I don’t know why you would think Russia is going to initiate the end of the world.
These days I’ve heard some Evangelical Christians talking about how they think Magog is Iran, since tensions between the US and Iran are high now.
All explanations are inconsistent, but do you see the common denominator? Theologians who believe in a literal interpretation of the Book of Revelation have tendency to think their national enemies are who the Bible is describing.
When interpreting elusive biblical scripture like the Revelation texts, I think the simplest answer is the correct answer. The Preterist view seems to be it.
The full Preterist view was first promoted by a Jesuit theologian in order to counter claims that the Pope was the Antichrist by pushing all the bible prophecies surrounding the last days into the remote past. There is a partial Preterist view that supports this version but still maintains that the second coming will occur in the future. I see the truth to be closer to this version.
None of the main positions regarding this subject are entirely satisfactory.
The History of Russia and its development together with most of the current world map make
for fascinating study if one is interested. However the Bible is not a current secular history or geography book. It deals with populated areas of the earth and spiritual matters associated
with them.
Jesus said ''For judgement I have come into the world so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind'' Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked What?
Are we blind too? Jesus said ''If you were blind you would not be guilty but now you claim you can see your guilt remains''
John 9 vs 40-41 Gideon's version
In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him and without him
was not anything made that was made. In him was life and the life was the light of men.
And the light shineth in the darkness and the darkness comprehended it not.
John 1 vs 1-5 KJV
That was the true light which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
John 1 vs 9 KJV
