Why do Christians believe in a place of torment called Hell?

God is a consuming fire. Heb 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.

The Goodness of God is so Good that we must have Him in us to survive seeing him in all his glory. AMP 2 Th 2:8 And then the lawless one (the antichrist) will be revealed and the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of His mouth and bring him to an end by His appearing at His coming. [Isa. 11:4.]10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

KJV 2th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming

2 peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will vanish (pass away) with a thunderous crash, and the [material] elements [of the universe] will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up.

Everything we know now will no longer be here, the Heavens and earth will vanish. And everything will burn up

KJV Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.


KJV Mal 4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

When God burns up something its gone all consuming.

The living soul thing is outdated. Scripture is progressive Paul wrote somewhere humans have a Body, soul and spirit.
