Was thinking about this today. If all bibles define themselves, then why such the pushback from people when I allow the bible to define the term "twelve tribes" as read in James 1:1? All throughout the bible that term is exclusive to the entire nation of Israel and is never used as a description of the body of Christ. It is not a Christian term.
I suggest you start a thread on it rather than lobbying for a side issue in this thread.

Merry Christmas! :)

I find the NASB hilarious. Especially when read with an american accent.
Americans pronounce God as Gawd.

I dont really know who the Lockman foundation is though, apparently they produce the NASB Bibles and amplified after selling their citrus orchard...

apparently you can buy masonic bibles (KJV only) with added masonic occult symbols and references. yep.

funniest bible would have to be lolcat bible.

Carol Meyers, a professor of religious studies at Duke University quoted in the link below says “It’s clear that after more than 400 years, the King James Bible has more than proven its staying power. “[For] reading in worship services, it's much more majestic than most of the modern translations,” “It’s had a very powerful influence on our language and our literature, to this very day.”
The King James Bible literally molded the English language, and there can be no denying its power (both in literature and in the spiritual realm).

But above that it was regarded as the Word of God in the English language by Christians for hundreds of years. It is still regarded as such by many Christians. There is not a single modern bible translation that is on a par with this translation, and there never will be, because God had His hand on this translation all along.

All Christians should be cognizant of the fact that all modern versions are in fact corrupted bibles. So why would people choose rotten apples when sound apples are available? We now come to the Mystery of Iniquity, where the Enemy not only sows tares among the wheat, but corrupted bibles among true bibles, and manages to deceive large numbers of Christians. The modern bible movement began with deception, and Westcott & Hort were the primary deceivers. They called good evil and evil good, thus exchanged the sweet for the bitter, and the bitter for the sweet.

Most Christians still do; the question is whether people do so exclusively. Most don't, and anyone with a sound understanding of the history of English translations doesn't. It seems to be only the people who are brainwashed by the KJV-only cult who do.

They called good evil and evil good, thus exchanged the sweet for the bitter, and the bitter for the sweet.
For all this alleged corruption, there is not a single important doctrine that any KJV-onlyist has been able to establish as missing from the modern versions. NOT A SINGLE ONE.

As for your "warnings", weren't you the one who said in another thread that Christians should reject all forms of fear-mongering?

if you grew up on a farm on a tiny island called new zealand, you can read the kiwi bible.

men are translated as 'blokes' and shepherds as 'farmhands'

here is some good news...

from luke

The angel reassured them: No worries you fellas! I've got some absolutely stunning news for you. Today, down the road in the town, this little nipper has been born. And he's no ordinary kid, he's going to make life totally rock! Cos, you see, he's God's special bloke. How do you know this is for real? Well check out these details- he'll be parked in a feeding box rather than your standard bassinet'

Suddenly this humunguous bunch of angels turned up alongside the original lone angel. Every one of them was enthusiastic. 'Wow God's just fantastic!' they said. 'And around this place we trust you all have a happy Christmas, as it were'

All seriousness & academic studies aside, from The Bible in Cockney rhyming slang (Well bits of it anyway)

The Lord's Prayer

'ello, Dad, up there in good old 'eaven,
Your name is, well, great and 'oly,
and we respect you, Guv.

We 'ope we can all 'ave a butcher's at 'eaven
and be there as soon as possible.
And we want to make you 'appy, Guv,
and do what you want 'ere on earth,
just like what you do in 'eaven.

Guv, please give us some Uncle Fred,
and enough grub and stuff to keep us going today.
And we 'ope you'll forgive us when we cock things up,
just like we're supposed to forgive them who annoy us
and do dodgy stuff to us.

There's a lot of dodgy people around, Guv;
please don't let us get tempted to do bad things.
'elp keep us away from all the nasty, evil stuff
and keep that dodgy Satan away from us,
'cos you're much stronger than 'im.

You're the Boss, God,
and will be forever, innit?

Cheers,
Amen.

Have you buys heard of the NET Bible? There is an app (free) available. Probably the best thing about it are the 63,000 translation notes. it’s strength is its accuracy.

John 3:16 NET
“For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭NET‬‬

It has a great translation note on the“this is the way” tramslation.

A Masterpiece, The King James Bible and its translators, all confessing Christian's, scholars beyond comparison!

For a closer look at the King James Bible and its translators, check out the attached link
For those who prefer the KJV, may I suggest you consider the NKJV instead? The language has been modernized to a degree. I imagine that you misunderstand some of what was intended by the authors when reading the KJV.

I encourage you to research it. You will find that the Greek mss are recent - not nearly as close to the originals as those modern translations are based on (Alexandrian text vs. the Byzantine text).

I am not trying to put down the KJV - at the time it was done, it was an excellent translation... given the mss they had to work with. But the language has changed so much.

The NET Bible is another modern paraphrase. You would be wise to leave it alone.
Nehemiah,

??? Paraphrase?! I do not want to sound rude, so just let me say that you should research the matter. It is one of the most accurate Bibles available. It was completed by more than 25 Greek and Hebrew scholars There are nearly 61,000 translator notes, explaining in detail the translation decisions made.

Daniel Wallace was the general editor.

What do you think of the NLT?
Right now I'm sticking to NKJV, ESV and occasionally referring to the NIV.
IMO you can’t go too far wrong with any of those... the NLT is a bit paraphrastic, but sometimes such a translation helps us to realize something that might have slipped by us otherwise.

Good reading.

Ive never seen a hard copy of the NET bible, if they did print one I might be keen to read it, if its as good as purported to be.

I cant be bothered with online bibles.

I think if you found a good translation, you tend to stick with it and dont really need any others. If the translation is any good it should serve you well.

What I find annoying is when people neglect to say what version they are quoting from. Because kjv is so familiar, any other version used will have words changed around and sounds strange. eg someone gave me a calendar with bible quotes for everyday, but it doesnt say what version is used, and so a lot of those quotes are unfamiliar to me.
I can look up the reference in KJv and then go, oh yes...but other versions seem to have lost their meaning. Its kinda weird. I think the verses have been truncated to fit in the box for each day, I dont like when people do that.

You are not supposed to add or delete scripture. People will quote only part of the verse and put .... in but that doesnt help if they never said what version it was so you can fill in the gaps.

I don't care for the NLT in its various editions. It's way too much paraphrase & inserted interpretive slant for me. I like literal word for word as much as I can get.
Sometimes amazing things are revealed by studying out hard to comprehend, oddly worded passages, that paraphrasing changes and obscures.

FYI, Nehemiah6 is a Textus Receptus-only proponent, and prefers the KJV above all others.

I have a NKJV study Bible, "Know the Word" that I've been using a lot in the past 12 months. It's REALLY good.

I will provide you with some choice examples of the paraphrasing found in the NET at another time.
