Average self defense shot is about 20 feet, and the mere sight of a person able to defend themselves ends a lot of threats. have you had the chance to hold it on the bench or Ransom Rest it?

Just got a email for some ammo I was on the notification list for, by the time I got home it was gone, 60 cents for 9mm is way too much anyway.

they are all dry around here. Not ammo-less and have the reloading press set up, and all the needed components for a while. Lots of 22 on hand in the meantime.

We have a big gun and knife show in Greenville this weekend or next .. My wife is looking for 9's , her sister is going looking for 380's and my 10 yr old grandson is getting a single shot upgrade to a 22 semi auto for Christmas so we'll need 22's aplenty, lol ..

Hunters safety has a portion where they speak about the stages of maturity a young hunter goes through, one of those is where they half to shoot every bit of ammo they have lol! Fortunately as we mature we get beyond that and the highest level enjoys being out and seeing all the beauty of his Creation that He has given us to share, and we may not ever have seen any game.
This, I believe, links to gratitude for His may blessings.
My grandson is a great example and is very mature and safe with firearms.
We really enjoy pouring in the life lessons, our responsibility to ourselves, family, others, etc. How their parents are watching them all the time to determine of they are grown up enough to move into this next level of becoming adults and good citizens.
I like to use the phrase, " the more grown up you are the more of this stuff you get to do, the less grown up you show them the less of this stuff you get to do". The watch the eyes open up!
When a young man wants something his ears open up and he pays attention!

I'm still in that stage. At a dove hunt, I find myself squeezing off 2 rounds before I realize that I got the bird with the first round.

Great for you that you have picked up on that, a single shot is a treat starter firearm as it trains us to be more sure of our shot. What would happen if you only loaded one? Suppoes you might catch yourself when you see the bird?

I know the first thoughts anybody would think .. He's 10 but he's already eating rabbits he hunts, fishes alone on their pond on about 50 acres of land and he seeks to please his parents, he loves the outdoors .. There's always a risk but he's more like a kid from the 60's than some of todays kids .. If you're old enough you remember gun racks in our pick-up trucks at school, rifles and shotguns and I didn't turn 18 until 6 months after I graduated .. I suspect he'll shoot a bunch of rounds and get it out of his system .. He will be supervised, taught and judged .. When he was 4 he asked Santa for a switch blade as his #1 gift, lolol ..

That’s the spirit. He sounds like a mountain boy. Reckon his dad has taught him about how to be dealing with them critters out yonder, so the risk is probably well taken care of. What caliber is he using for the rabbits?

Read an article about one young man growing up, I believe he was 10 or a couple more years, he had a trapline and was caught in a major snow storm, he had a hollowed out tree on his trap line and holed up in there for a few days till he could get home, know how to keep a small fire going and had a little food to get by.
I saw a comment once about how the 60's car manuals told you how to set your valves, now it tells you to not drink the water in the battery.

One day at the gun club we were discussing how we got into the shooting sports and it was pretty uniformly recalled that it was a connection to our relationship with our fathers, a kind of right of passage that dad was pleased with us.
At our Hunters Safety classes we enjoy reminding the youth that mom and dad are watching them all the time to see how responsible they are, and if they are becoming mature they get to do more things like this, the less mature they are the less they get to do stuff like this.
You kind see the little light in the eyes come on.

I was so lucky to get acquainted with some Norwegian hunters a couple of years back whenever I was deployed to Norway for Arctic warfare training, and got to go moose hunting. That was awesome. I got one, 650 lbs moose, using a Sako 308, a Finnish rifle.
