Isn't it beautiful that everything we do in life is based upon Yay/Nay.

Do I want to get out of bed today?
Do I want to wear this?
Do I want to eat this?
Do I want to go to work?
Do I want to put fuel into the vehicle?

Sometimes we are forced to do things we don't want to (like putting fuel into our vehicle or go to work).

And then on the flip side is morality between right and wrong.

Should I say something to offend this person? Odd how we never ask this first, but just say it and realize we just offended them.
Should I look at this beautiful woman and imagine things with her? Typically, we see her, start to think and then realize we are doing wrong.

To me, it's strange how common things like what to eat we are good at deciding before hand what to choose.
But when we sin, we sin and then realize we ignored the part where we could have chosen "no" before committing the sin.

If we could get our morality on the same pattern as basic life situations, we would be better off.
This is why there is always a "WAR" within us as Believers!
Yep it's called sin nature. Happens so fast, because that's the natural man aka the flesh.
And it's why it's so important to focus our minds on Jesus and the Word of God. In the Old testament they meditated upon the law, which was the Word of God given to that point. It's very hard to read "stealing is sin" and then get up and go ahead and commit an armed robbery. So the Word of God searches us and transforms our mind. Societies become decadent and more evil because minds get conformed, as evil becomes a new normal generation after generation. And is why they would told to set themselves apart and not mix with the world.

I think renewing the mind for you means cleaning up your flesh. To me it's putting on the mind of Christ which is a one time action.
This is so wrong I hardly know where to begin. How did you enact that one time action? How did you once and for put on the mind of Christ?

Paul explained in vs 13, sin was in the world, as in they committed acts of sins (verb), but it was not imputed to them because no other law was given.
yes they sinned, verb, and sin, noun, was in the world through one man. and death, which is the wages of sin, reigned.
where does death come from?
and how is one who has the law, sins, and dies, better or worse than one who does not have the law, sins, and dies?
my question is what does '
not imputed' mean? what are the implications?
we're back in chapter 3 now. :)

but yes it is definitely an imperative statement, i.e. a command.


this thread's crazy. people are saying verbs are nouns, 1st person is third person, present tense is past tense, imperatives are casual observations. o_O
and i haven't even read a third of the thread yet!

He also wrote that without the law there is no knowledge of sin yet both Adam and Eve sinned and were certainly well aware of it.
i don't recall a command being recorded about offerings, yet Cain knew he was doing wrong. and i don't recall a command recorded 'do not listen to your wife' but Adam, who wasn't deceived, was held to account specifically both for doing this and eating of the tree. why is that heeding her voice brought up?

seems to me this passage indicates 'one-time-event' is definitely not always the case?

so, death is in the world -- and those of the world are in the reign of death.
but "
sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin" . . . :unsure:


i was asking, where does death come from, because death comes from sin -- i mean to point out the fact that all die. all plants, all animals, die. so how did the whole earth get so completely covered and saturated with death? well, Genesis 3. cursed is the ground for Adam's sake. Romans 8. the whole creation put in bondage to decay and subject to futility not of its own will.

infants die. unborn die. plants die. if death is the result of sin, do plants sin? do the stillborn sin? how do they have death?
that's the question that in my opinion will point the skeptical to what repercussion the first Adam's transgression has.
because if we say, all flesh dies because of their own sin, completely apart from anything having to do with Genesis 3, then we have to explain why grass withers and mothers miscarry.

for some reason all the cells in our body die. even those who die before committing any transgression. even grass and butterflies. i do not believe cell death was part of creation until sin.

"the life is in the blood" -- a mother transfers no blood to her baby in the womb, and even though Woman was first in transgression, it is Adam through whom sin & death entered the world. Abel's blood cried from the ground. eating blood is an abomination, but Christ calls us to drink His. why, why?

Romans 5 is much more complex than Romans 7, IMO, because it is directly coupled to Genesis 3 - and Genesis 3 is a 'super-node' of scripture; it is beyond profound, and has ubiquitous connection throughout the Bible, and the entire world.

Their sin was not charged to their account, that was not imputed means.

The implication of that is spelt out in the next few verses Romans 5:15-19.

Just as Adam's descendants died only because of Adam's disobedience and not their own acts of unrighteousness, Christians who descended from Christ are justfied only because of Jesus's disobedience, and not our own acts of righteousness.

No, that is not what the verse says.

This is what the verse says;
Romans 5:13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

You will not be punished for picking your nose because there is no law. It will not be imputed to you as sin. You are correct in your assertion that there was no Mosaic Law, but the Mosaic Law is not the only thing that brings punishment and death.

Now lets add the context of the very next verse;
Romans 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
Yes, everyone died after Adam even though their sin was not imputed to them. They could not eat from the same tree.

Unless you can show what other law they broke, the only conclusion one can draw is that they died "in Adam's transgression".

I believe, like Adam, physical death came from spiritual death.

When they were born from Adam's disobedience, all of them were born spiritually dead, hence physical death inevitably followed.

For us, our spirit is reborn into Christ, because of his obedience. Even though our body still will die, thanks to Adam, we are assured that our spirit will be alive always.
