Not one of these verses says repent and become sinless.
We are told not to keep sinning.
1 John 3:9
No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him;
he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.
1 John 5:18 We know that
anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him.
2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “the Lord knows those who are his,” and,
“Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”
Acts 26:17, 18 …I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’
The Greek word for "repent" is "metanoia" (noun) and "matanoeo" (verb) you see as defined in the Strongs #3340, 3341: to think differently or afterwards, reconsider. After thought, change of mind. Repentance basically means a "change of mind" and the context must determine what is involved in this change of mind. Where salvation is in view, repentance precedes saving faith in Christ.
I couldn't care any less what Mr. Strong says, unless he wants to debate here.
We have to change our mind about wanting to sin.
Matthew 21:32 - For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.
Mark 1:15 - Repent and believe the gospel.
Acts 20:21 - testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance toward God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
If repent meant turn away from all sinning/become sinless, then people could only be saved if they completely stopped sinning. And in that case, it is unlikely that anyone will be saved, since we don't know anyone who has ever completely stopped sinning, although there are some people who believe they live a sinless, perfect life 100% of the time (exactly as Jesus lived) who are suffering from a terminal case of self righteousness. (1 John 1:8-10)
The Word of God says to CONFESS your sins with your mouth to God and to stop sinning.
John 5:14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again.
Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.”
1 Corinthians 15:34 Come back to your senses as you ought, and
stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame.
2 Peter 2:14 With eyes full of adultery, they never
stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed—an accursed brood![/QUOTE]
