Consequences God'sGrace101. Our actions have consequences and under grace there is no condemnation, because of Jesus (through His bloodshed and ministry as High Priest). The consequences are felt in this life, and even in the next in terms of rewards (or the lack thereof).
When you are married, it is not that you must not be adulterous, it is that you love the person and choose to be faithful. We have the freedom of choice in this life, but with such freedom comes consequence. You could cheat, but it isn't of love, and once you've known love you realize nothing else will suffice.
Its all about consequences, weighing the pros and cons. This is how I was raised. My father raised us with this in mind. To consider our actions. Yes, he taught us right and wrong according to God's word, but with it, he gave us the freedom of choice. You could do this, but why would you? It leads to emptiness and despair, and it ignores your problems, so why do that (thinking of drinking, alcoholism)?
So, yes, even born again Christians have the freedom of choice. Choices that will have God chasten us, to bring us into the light. For our own well being and those around us. We are of the light, and so should we carry ourselves.
Even atheists know everything you've said above.
What does the pastor/priest say when marrying a couple?
He says that they are to remain faithful to one another.
The O.T. and the N.T. teach the same.
So we may not "want",,,,but if you want to be honest, you'd have to admit that we also cannot do this and also call ourselves a Christian.....
As to the idea of our getting chastised and there being consequences and how we lose rewards but keep heaven....
This is a modern-day idea that has no basis in the N.T.
Jesus did not hang on that cross to bring us rewards...He died to SAVE US.
The inheritance is our reward....our reward due to our salvation.
Colossians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the
inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
Ephesians 1:11-14
In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
Acts 20:32
And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
Titus 3:7
So that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Romans 8:17
And if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
And many more....
Our inheritance is heaven...
not rewards --- although we will get those too.
