I did some research on shooting bears. It was stated that a gun that can be shot quickly and often was the best choice. It needs to be a gun easily brought out and fired. The more hits in a short amount of time is required. A 9mm semiautomatic with a 17 round magazine is a good choice. Revolvers provides too few bullets. Bears move quickly so you have a short amount of time to put as many bullets as possible in it.
I did research when deciding what to buy. I saw a gel block with several different calibers including magnums. I was shocked to see that all bullets had the cavitation and stopping point of the bullet line up. No difference between the magnums and other bullets. Second item is all police around the world carry 9mm or 40 caliber, almost identical calibers. Ammunition costs are slightly cheaper for 9mm. Therefore I chose a Ruger P95 to buy. Well made weapon and under $400.

Capacity's irrelevant if your (insert preferred 9mm here)
malfunctions because you're shooting it in a desperate panic,

This knowledge made me view Dirty Harry in a way different light.

If anything Harry Calahan is a testimony to the value of practice and training. He was out-classed in his choice of weapon but succeeded by being THE MAN.

Redhawks are amazing revolvers. When they first came out, I ended up with one of each... .357, .41 mag, and .44 mag. The .41 mag was my favorite... 5 1/2" barrel, and I put the Ruger "express" sights on it. Shallow v in the back and an ivory dot up front.
I ended up trading them all off at one time or another. Now that Ruger makes it in .45 Colt, I might have to get another one. They have one of the smoothest double actions I've found on a big bore revolver.

Yes, the .41 Mag was a good one for penetration too. The only drawback when comparing it to the .357 or .44 Mags, was you couldn't shoot lesser powered counterparts: 38 Spec. for the .357 and .44 Spec. for the .44 Mag. That alone gave those revolvers more appeal.
Your choice. I will go with the experts on how to deal with an attacking bear. As many bullets as possible. I will have 17 to your 6. The same problem you would be facing. I saw a gel block with several different calibers. All cavitated and had the bullet stop at the same point. 44 magnum ended up the same as a 22. There is the additional shock value of a larger caliber but penetration is the same. Fragmentation bullets are a different story. Larger caliber bullets mean fewer bullets in a magazine. Therefore I go with the experts saying the more bullets in a bear the better. You have 6 to my 17. I'll stick with my Ruger P95.

I was looking online at the new Sig P365, and it looks like it might be a winner. I need to put one in my sweaty palm and see how it feels, but if it is as nice as reported, I might just have to get one.
I have heard that Sig has postponed shipping them, initially, because of some issue or another, but it looks like it might be the real deal... time will tell.
Perhaps the ultimate concealed carry pistol..... 9mm, 10 rounds, slim enough to carry very well. I think pricing will be in the $500's somewhere...

Here is some HP ammo to go with it.
Yes... I think I would prefer the extended magazine as shown in the pic... the big advantage of this pistol over my PT111 is the width of it.. this one will hold about what the PT does, but is slimmer. Not by much, granted, but at these levels, a tenth of an inch could make the difference in being "sort of" concealable, and "easily" concealable.
Again, I'm not throwing away my PT111, but I would really like to look at one of those Sig's... The PT111 has double-strike capability, and a safety... so it likely won't be a "hand's down better" pistol... but it will be worth a look.
Plus, I could buy two PT111's and have a lot of money left over for ammo or a holster, for the cost of the Sig.
I was just reading an article in the American Rifleman that says Kahr is coming out with some affordable carry guns. The C P and T series retail under $500 and typically can go for mid $300s. They cut a few corners in mfg. but are still a cut above many others. All made in the USA. 
Scary to think that this model was killed with hollow points..

A regular bullet puts a hole through you unless it strikes a bone.
