Question for you gun folks? I have a 30 30 shotgun and a 357 semi automatic pistol just for protection. I live alone in a rural area so I thought they would be good for protection. Problem is I am not good with shooting. I have only shot them a couple of times and didn't like it at all.
So the question is if there is a threat like a dangerous animal outside or my home is getting broken into which one would be the best to defend myself with?

You need training, so you are safe and comfortable with both use and accuracy.
Weapons are useless unless handled well and with real intent, which is soldier like
training. All my kids can shoot and have trained with the army. So know your enemy
and know what you will do, your life depends on it.

Go with the shotgun sister. It's harder to miss. Get some buck shot for it and just aim it best you can at those wild beasts. Join a gun club and get comfortable with handling them. Too be honest, the .357 is probably too much gun for you. Maybe get a small 9mm, easier to handle. My wife is proficient with mine.

I don't like shooting and don't know if I could ever become comfortable with it. I am afraid of loud sounds so I have a hard time making myself practice even though I have friends that have tried to get me to practice.
One of my friends told me that I'd be better off using the shot gun because you can't really miss with it, but it is so long and awkward to hold, and the pistol can get more shots off quicker. So I'm just wondering what you guys think would be the best to use for a poorly skilled person like me.

Thanks, that's what one of my friends told me about the shotgun and the 357 is pretty heavy. I have a hard time holding it steady. I just like it cause its shorter. Probably would do better with a smaller pistol.

I was hoping that I could just fire one and scare someone off. But was told when it is an emergency you have to use them like you mean it or someone might just take it from me and kill me with it.
They also told me ammo was expensive now days and I shouldn't waste it

I'm a pretty small person. I do workout and lift hand weights but only 5 pounds sometimes 10, but maybe I should go for more weight.
Then I might not even have to use a gun.

So it might be the best option for me then. It's probably a smaller gun with a less of a kick, and I don't really want to kill anyone. It should be enough to stop someone from attacking me shouldn't it?
my friend was at a service station yesterday waiting for fresh coffee to be brewed.
he noted that out of the 20 magazines in the rack, 12 were wholly concerned with guns.

imagine you were a Vulcan, and at the Vulcan refueling station there was a magazine rack.
imagine 60% of the Vulcan magazines were about deadly nerve pinches.
