Well I believe I am free as long as I have the ability to defend myself ... I have not given up on the original ideas of my nation and believe as long as the constitution is upheld ..especially the 2nd Amendment ..we have freedom :) I do believe we have had a long period of time where both parties in American have tried to slowly steal away our liberties, but I think there is still hope we can reform our government and the American people will regain our Republic. We are not going down without a fight ...peaceful fight but in the end, many of us will pay whatever price to uphold our constitution.

BTW Mitspa, I did read your original comment as rude - I was surprised at that comment - it's so unlike you.

Cost of firearms is dependent on what type, and what quality... much like anything else.

A good handgun will start at about $250 and go on up dramatically from there. Some of the custom handguns will go over $3500 easily.

Rifles are about the same.

OK thanks, I really had no idea if they cost $10, $100 or $1000.

I have a Sako .308 for moose hunting. Real good rifle, reckon it'll be good for White Tail as well.

well I didn't intend it that way..thats why I tried to explain my point was to make a political point, not make a personal attack against you or England ..that I love... but think is very wrong on the whole gun issue.

Yes..very good. Perhaps overkill for Texas whitetails, but an all around great caliber.

Personally, I'd use something larger for moose, but the 308 will work....it's mostly about bullet design and placement, anyway.

Talking hunting rifles, I used a Winchester 243 to shoot whitetails my first years of hunting, which worked pretty well but is a bit small. Last year, I used my brother's 30-06 and I LOVED it! I didn't actually use it on a deer of my own, but I finished my sister's deer and the rifle worked beautifully. (Funny story behind that finishing shot, but that's for a different time! :)).

Yeah, if I had to go after a moose, I'd pick up a .338 Win Mag.

Perhaps I'm not as good a shot as Jennymae though :p

Ok, (we thought this was funny, anyway) my sister and I both hunt, but we're both a bit squeamish about blood, and that kind of stuff (though we do suck it up and field-dress/butcher our own deer, house rule). My horror of having to do a finishing shot likely makes me bag less deer, but it sure makes me a more humane hunter. I've never had to finish a deer of my own, and since seeing my dad finish one I've vowed I'd never have to do all that tracking/finishing stuff.

Last year my sister and I were sitting double in the stand, when a nice little doe walked out. My sister was closer so she carefully raised her gun...bang! Her infamous back-bone shot. Down but not dead. I was horrified. No one here to finish it. But we can't just let it suffer! I'm going to have to get down there, shoot that thing at close range just because of some stupid...at that moment, it got up and turned broadside to me as it was about to crawl into the woods. So I raised my gun, took about two seconds to aim, and shot it. Perfect heart-lung and it dropped like a stone. My shot was literally within 20 seconds of hers, I didn't hear anything, didn't feel the kick, I barely remember even getting a sight-picture, but I DO remember that my sister said, "NICE." and I think I told the 30-06 that I loved it... But the funniest part of the whole thing was by far my Dad's reaction when he came with the truck to help us haul it.

Dad "who shot it?"
Sister, "Uh, we did."
Dad "what?"
Me "She shot it. I just finished it."
Sister "she finished it from the stand"
Dad "She WHAT?"
We explained the whole story, and I think he was actually a little miffed that he had never gotten a chance to do that kind of thing :D He was kinda grumbling about "easiest finishing shot ever."

You know something... one thing I learned from being on CC is that christians and guns go together like southerners and pickup trucks...

Don't get me wrong.. I love guns! :) Not too crazy about trucks though... I'm more of a sports car fan..

Good for you, Tin.... I don't mind killing an animal, especially for meat, but I don't want them to suffer. I want it to be as quick as possible.

I'm sure you can handle a moose using a .308, Desdichado, the .308 is fully capable of it:D

I recollect the first moose I shot. I didn't use a .308 back then, but a 7.92x57 Mauser...some recoil, but works well.
