Honestly thanks loads for your post. I'm starting to get some ideas of what to do. I read that prayer. I like its idea. It gave me some wisdom. I guess God will have to be my best friend, because there is no one else right now. Im really suprisied at the good people here on this site like yourself. What helps you control your bad emotions day by day?
Hi I know you directed the question at Tourist. But what helps me is
waking up each morning, thinking this is a new day, new possibilities,
new start. I can’t change the past even if it was only yesterday. I can only live
for today.
I work part time and care for my elderly aunt who has multiple issues.
End of life COPD, heart failure, chronic disease, and more recently dementia.
She is on oxygen at home 24/7. Life is impossibly hard our house is more like
a hospital. Looking after her involves getting up in the middle of the night too.
I’ve been surviving on 6-7 hours broken nights sleep for the last few years.
She gets confused, removes her oxygen (if her oxygen levels drop too low then
it’s hospital), shouts when she is confused. Needs help with toileting, can’t make
drinks or meals for herself, needs a little help getting into bed. Can’t wash herself.
I’ve learnt to live one day at a time and forget about what happened yesterday.
Each day is another new day. With new possibilities, new things to learn.
Life is too precious to waste it. My aunt is 83. She’s had a full life, now I’m
there for her as she is approaching the end.
Don’t live the rest of your life feeling depressed and achieving nothing.
Live it to the full, as old age soon creeps up on you and then you find you
can’t do anything even if you want to.
People don’t appreciate what a blessing it is to be able to go to the toilet
on your own, get a shower on your own, make a cup of coffee, grab a bite to
eat when you want, sit outside in a park, travel in a car or bus. Until they
no longer can.
