I'm a sinner, narcissist, addicted to porn, masturbation, I have depression, no friends, and I'm not doing anything to change. How is that for you?

I urge you to pray to God for His help in changing the things that are harming your spiritual life. I'm a sinner too but I take it one day at a time and say to myself, "I'm a sinner, but with God's help I will not sin today". I suffer from depression also. Regarding friends, my wife is my best friend. I highly recommend that you say the serenity prayer each day until you see a positive change in your life. I have said a prayer for you to help you to get on the right spiritual track. You sound like most people, including myself, because we all have sinned - in other words, you are average. About par for the course. Thank you for the honest contribution to my thread. You can add 'brave' to your first sentence.

Honestly thanks loads for your post. I'm starting to get some ideas of what to do. I read that prayer. I like its idea. It gave me some wisdom. I guess God will have to be my best friend, because there is no one else right now. Im really suprisied at the good people here on this site like yourself. What helps you control your bad emotions day by day?

Hi I know you directed the question at Tourist. But what helps me is
waking up each morning, thinking this is a new day, new possibilities,
new start. I can’t change the past even if it was only yesterday. I can only live
for today.

I work part time and care for my elderly aunt who has multiple issues.
End of life COPD, heart failure, chronic disease, and more recently dementia.
She is on oxygen at home 24/7. Life is impossibly hard our house is more like
a hospital. Looking after her involves getting up in the middle of the night too.
I’ve been surviving on 6-7 hours broken nights sleep for the last few years.
She gets confused, removes her oxygen (if her oxygen levels drop too low then
it’s hospital), shouts when she is confused. Needs help with toileting, can’t make
drinks or meals for herself, needs a little help getting into bed. Can’t wash herself.

I’ve learnt to live one day at a time and forget about what happened yesterday.
Each day is another new day. With new possibilities, new things to learn.

Life is too precious to waste it. My aunt is 83. She’s had a full life, now I’m
there for her as she is approaching the end.

Don’t live the rest of your life feeling depressed and achieving nothing.
Live it to the full, as old age soon creeps up on you and then you find you
can’t do anything even if you want to.

People don’t appreciate what a blessing it is to be able to go to the toilet
on your own, get a shower on your own, make a cup of coffee, grab a bite to
eat when you want, sit outside in a park, travel in a car or bus. Until they
no longer can.

It helps to keep bad emotions in check like anger by talking to God all day like a normal conversation. He knows when I might be getting angry and reminds me that whatever I am mad about is not worth getting angry over. I really don't have much anger in my life but keeping God close really helps. I am glad that you read that prayer. It is one of my favorites. God can always be your best friend even if you have a person who is your best friend. God does not mine sharing the attention.

You offered very wise counsel. You are certainly a loving humble servant of the Lord in the way that you have taken care of your aunt all of these years. I was a caregiver too for my sick late second wife but your care is much more involved in intensity and frequency. I admire you very much for being the person that you are and you are often in my prayers. I have prayed for God's will and desire be accomplished with your aunt. He will know when it is time and understands full well what you have been going through. He admires you very much too.

Thank you for the well wishes my friend. Even though I had to work on my birthday I had a very good time with my wife that evening. God bless you too and those that you love. I will say a special prayer for you tomorrow just before I go out to work early in the morning. You are a very nice person, that's for sure. :)

I'm not even sure how belated this is, but Happy Happy Birthday, Tourist!!! :D
Not too belated, my birthday was Jan 9. I turned 64, same age as my wife Darlene whose birthday was Dec 23. She is 17 days older than me. She says that she prefers younger men and that I prefer older women. I guess that this is true in our case. :)

I don't know if I can confess a couple of things but these are what's weighing on my heart... Firstly, my mum is an alcoholic and for some reason I am deeply ashamed of this; so much so I literally haven't told anyone in my life. I prayed for years for her recovery and healing but it's never come, so I have stopped believing this will ever come to pass. Secondly, I put on a brave front that I'm happy enough in myself to be single and I don't need the commitment of a relationship but I am deeply afraid that I will be alone forever now as I have been single for seven years now. Yes I know I don't need someone else to complete my life, but part of me would still love a relationship again and to share my life with someone. I'm so scared this won't ever happen for me again.
