Nothing to do with salvation....try looking up the word CONTEXT.....here I will help...

Context
noun
  1. the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood.
Sure your opinion will be respected;)

Galatians 2:16
Yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by (faith) in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.

Romans 3:20
For by (works) of (the law) no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

Written to Jews that BELIEVE IN GOD but no saving faith....CONTEXT CONTEXT AND I MUST SAY CONTEXT.........!!!!!!!!! It is NOT ABOUT WORKS.....

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Matthew 7:21-23
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ (will enter the kingdom of heaven), but the one who (does the will) of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

So your saying it's just another story book, that doesn't have any meaning in our lives?. Plenty of history books in the library. I believe the whole word of God, has meanings or instructions we can learn from. Its not just a history book to me:)

I have recently heard one way to reconcile James with Paul, is that James made a distinction between righteousness and justification.

From this perspective, Abraham was declared righteous when he believed that God will make him a father of many. But he was only justified after he was willing to sacrifice Issac on the altar. That is what a literal reading of James 2 would imply

Thus, the view is that, before Jesus, these 2 take place at different times, one thru faith, the other thru a corresponding work.

But now, after the cross, righteousness and justification for us take place simultaneously when we accept Jesus's DBR.

What do you think of this perspective?

Did you the word "believeth" is a continuous tense. Means continuing to believe:)

I believe the book of James describes what true faith actually is:) That's how I view it:). The true faith that saves.

So in your opinion, do you think there is a difference between righteousness and justification? Do they mean the same thing?

I was taught that the latter means "as if you have never sinned."

Romans 4:25 New International Version (NIV)
25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
