Why would someone in love with Jesus...being forgiven of sin...seeing their need for someone greater than self...question His faithfulness in His keeping power?

That to my thinking...comes from fear of something...a suspicious nature...or not knowing the victory of Jesus over demonic power.
I assure you I'm not fearful about the tongues movement.
I do fear for those who do such things.
but they will not listen

Whether or not presidente is a prophet or not...he certainly could be a Pastor or teacher. Fair and balanced teaching..am impressed and have learned from him.
if he claims to be a prophet, he would be a false prophet, therefore excluded from being a pastor or teacher.
does he claim to be a prophet?

Fear is never faith.
are you just winging it?
I have faith the Lord will deal with the false prophets and those performing lying signs and wonders.
it doesn't mean I don't fear for them - who wants someone they know to be cast out, as Jesus said he would do.

And I fear for those who lump the genuine in with the fakes, and call the whole thing "of the devil"

But they won't listen either... to us or the scriptures

He said He would judge and I believe He has started. We have seen mega churches fall. Not all...perhaps those whose motives were money which I believe is the problem of false prophets. They are called hirelings. They don't care for the sheep but what they get.

Holy Spirit hasn't left the world. If He ever does...I hope I'm gone.

I am very careful on judging others though. Its not in my job description. Is it in yours?

I'm not married to the idea that the corinths were uttering pagan tongues.
paul's admonitions work just fine when applied to actual recipients of the supernatural gift who did not also have to ability to interpret (translate the various languages).
if paul was given the gift of tongues - let's say he could suddenly speak french - if he didn't have the gift of interpreting the messages he was uttering, then HIS UNDERSTANDING WOULD BE UNFRUITFUL.

why is this hard?
I know how much this topic seems to go many times out of context of what scripture says. 1 Corinthians chapter 12, 13, 14 should be studied collectively with the understanding of authorial intent. paul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit said in chapter 12 verse 1 " Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.". meaning unlearned about about what? spiritual gifts . Chapter 12 list what those gifts are and who gives them. tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit. Some may not like that but that is Bible. Now as we read in chapter 12 Paul explains not all have all the gifts they are given as the Holy Spirit see best for all ( church). Paul encourages us to seek the gifts at no time in chapter 12 does he say not to seek speaking in Tongues or any gift for that matter. chapter 13:
verse 1 :
If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. NASB

this chapter addresses the abuse of the gifts and the gifts all of them including tongues are to be operated in love. no where in this chapter does Paul suggest any gift has stopped.
verse 8 to 13 :
state:

Love never fails; but if there are gifts of [w]prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part; 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. 11 When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I [x]became a man, I did away with childish things.12 For now we see in a mirror [y]dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. 13 But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the [z]greatest of these is love. NASB
No where does it say any of this has been "done away with". the language says will,
. Context of each much be addressed has knowledge ceased? no! has prophecy ceased ? no many have yet to be fullfilled. Has tongues ceased ? if we are looking at the context of the text and passages the answer is no. have we come to fully know? as verse 12, 13 in this chapter of 13 speak about ? no.
ALL THE GIFTS HAVE BEEN MISUSED here are some that many have no issue with and do far more damage then those immature about Tongue use in and out of the church :

gift of Preaching, Praise and worship leaders, Deacons, and bishops Pastors , and all of the five fold . Paul is not in anyway trying to stop these gifts but instruct on love and maturity when using them.

Chapter 14 is the correction, instruction and discipline of those who are using the gifts and how they are to be operated in Love, for the purpose of edification, exhortation, and building up. Who is to judge and what to do if one speaks presumptuously. Elders are to correct. we disciple , we teach. this is the big problem with church today many are half baked cakes . it's not spiritual enough or way to much and no understanding of Gods word or HIS Spirit. both have been in error and pride has blinded them all.
the very last verses in chapter 14 say this about all three chapters it's amazing many miss this

All the gifts of the Holy Spirit are active today in the"Church"they have not ceased

could you help determine the difference between the real and the fake.?
otherwise we are only left to take your word for it.
who are you to judge it real? can you 100% disprove it in scripture, no you can't. can you say without a doubt that it is fake? no you can't, you judge it by what you see, then you call it the of the devil. you don't think the devil would try and mimic it in the world. he tries to mimic everything God does. i would check any fear you have when it comes to speaking in tongues, it might just be the spirit scratching on a hardened heart.

While I can't say this with 100% certainty, I would suspect that anyone doing it in front of a camera would be faking it. 'Prayer tongues' are to be done in private, between you and God. Which is one reason I'm not a big fan of the pentasmics thing. They forget this. They're the reason Paul wrote about time and place in 1 Cor 14.

Keys to discernment are, 1 does it glorify God, and 2 does it edify the speaker.

Look, I understand there are fakes, if I had to venture a guess I'd say they out number the genuine uses. I also understand that anyone pushing them on others (pushing, not explaining) is fake as well.

A couple days ago my wife and I were decorating her mom's church (Lutheran Missouri Synod) and the deacon said "I'd go to a pentecostal church but I don't want to speak in tongues". I told him that if they insist he does he should walk out.

God never said you have to. He just said you should be open to it, and do it right or don't do it at all.

What about those of us who don't have that gift.
(Surely you know that we all have different gifts)

[SUP]4 [/SUP]There are different kinds of gifts. But they are all given to believers by the same Spirit. [SUP]5 [/SUP]There are different ways to serve. But they all come from the same Lord. [SUP]6 [/SUP]There are different ways the Spirit works. But the same God is working in all these ways and in all people.

[SUP]7 [/SUP]The Holy Spirit is given to each of us in a special way. That is for the good of all. [SUP]8 [/SUP]To some people the Spirit gives a message of wisdom. To others the same Spirit gives a message of knowledge. [SUP]9 [/SUP]To others the same Spirit gives faith. To others that one Spirit gives gifts of healing. [SUP]10 [/SUP]To others he gives the power to do miracles. To others he gives the ability to prophesy. To others he gives the ability to tell the spirits apart. To others he gives the ability to speak in different kinds of languages they had not known before. And to still others he gives the ability to explain what was said in those languages. [SUP]11 [/SUP]All the gifts are produced by one and the same Spirit. He gives gifts to each person, just as he decides.

I Think you make a good point, but I would argue Paul has addressed this in chapters 12, 13, and 14. if it is a tv minster or a service on tv the word of god is not effected by that. nor are they requirements null in void . They are out of order they are to be addressed. it is those who are mature who GOD is holding responsible to correct, and teach. many of us have failed in this area IMHO

we're called to distinguish between true and false.
so that we can determine with whom we ought to fellowship.
since the supernatural gifts ceased exactly as foretold, we can easily conclude the 5-fold ministry (etc) ppl are in error (I am being kind), and stop having any fellowship with them.

the supernatural gifts ceased. the simple proof is that no one is raising ppl from the dead, or even performing miraculous healing etc,
tongues itself is actually laughable as a 'gift" <--it's so outrageously awful I can't see how anyone is duped by it,

Matthew 7
22Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness.’
