Again no, I believe this is the scripture you are speaking of correct?
14 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. 2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue[
a] does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. 3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. 4 Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I would like every one of you to speak in tongues,[
b] but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues,[
c] unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified.
The word edify means to build up strenghten teach and grow, and Paul does say it edifies us but then goes on to say that they are not speaking to men in this instance but to God and no one understands them because they speak by the spirit. This is what I am talking about when I mention around the forums how in that intimate moments we speak to him and express things that the human tongue simply has no word for, those deep unexpressable adoration love reverence gratefulness joy everything we feel for him but are unable to express it in words because the human tongue simply cannot it is just to deep.
He then goes to speak about prophecy which even says here it is not about seeing the future but about edifying encouraging building up and bringing the church closer to God
These are two different gifts but the tongues also has an interpreter for when the tongue spoken is not for ones self but for the church there is more than one purpose and more than one kind of tongues as the scripture says and it even says to seek and love the gifts especially prophecy because those who excel in encouraging building strengthening and lighting the fire in the churches hearts are what a prophet is.
I explained this in my thread the difference between a prophet and prophecy, so no you completely missed the point of the scripture
